Great Relaxing Weekend
This was a gift from my kids and at last we got away with the dog for one night. As soon as we arrived the welcome was warm and inviting. This continued all the time we were there, nothing too difficult for those on duty, even with my diet requirements, we were attended to with no fuss. Bed was very comfy, room was warm. Everything to hand. Food was excellent, both evening meal and breakfast and the choice of drinks was to my wife’s liking. The dog was fussed by all with plenty of local walks

Great Service from start to finish.
We got the experience as a Christmas gift, from the minute we logged on to the web site to register our voucher, through to arriving at the hotel, it was fantastic service. The hotel was super, we called to book, they were so nice, then on arrival we were made very welcome. The room and hotel was spotless, the food was great and the experience was just fab.

A great spot and a warm welcome.
We had a great stay at Friars Carse. The welcome was warm and the roaring coal fires made it very cosy. The rooms were comfortable and well kept and the food was good, hearty fair. Only criticism would be some of the decor could do with updating, especially in the dining room and the corridor to Willow.

Escape instead of experience
Virgin experience days are a farce We have tried using both balloon trips and lorry driving. Both of which Virgin was unable to deliver on. We exchanged the lorry day for a night at Friars Carse Country house. This was excellent A shame about the service from the day experience crowd, we have aired both the good and bad aspects of Virgin

Romantic weekend at Friars carse
Hotel was beautiful and secluded woodland walks by the river were breath taking.Rooms were very clean and comfortable with tea and coffee provided in the room.We dined in the restaurant and food was well presented although the steak was requested well done and was medium rare.Menu could have been expanded including desserts but was fine. Overall we thought our stay was fantastic and staff were very polite and accommodating , well recommended and we hope to be back soon

Memorable overnight stay
House and grounds idyllic. Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Breakfast delicious. Weather wonderful. Had a very enjoyable walk by the River Nith, then over the fields to Ellisland Farm and to the The hermitage, finally rounding off our time at Friars Carse with the best Afternoon Tea we have ever had.

Relaxing break
Friars Carse was a beautiful setting. Service and food was lovely. Felt totally chilled sitting by the roaring log fire drinking a wee gin. Enjoyed the walk to the Hermitage where Burns wrote some of his poems.

Friars Carse
Although slightly run down there is an active programme of refurbishment going on. Staff were excellent, standard room very acceptable and dog-friendly. Dinner was fairly priced and well presented. Breakfast (included in the deal) was well presented and well cooked. For a quiet break we would recommend this experience. Facilities at the hotel are limited unless you are looking for fishing and/or walking. The entrance is easily missed as the driveway is very narrow.

Great but
Great place. Really enjoyed the stay but a few issues. First we went out without the door being locked and didn’t know it. It was only when we came back did we notice. We wasn’t told that the door didn’t auto lock. The WiFi didn’t work either. Only certain rooms get it. The food was delicious and the breakfast was nice. Staff are friendly. Little confusing to find the place too. Sat nav took us past the entrance and your not looking for the entrance as your following the app

Scottish Retreat!
Had a lovely peaceful stay at Friars Carse. We were told weeks in advance that the kitchen was having a new floor so no evening service and only Continental breakfast. Friendly and pleasant staff. Room was excellent with a super soft bed. Great walks around the country side. Would visit again.

Great looking in a beautiful spot. Public rooms very nice and bar food good. Friars Ruin cocktail especially. Bedroom functional but the bathroom was a little disappointing. Breakfast was very good.

location good but that was all
I had great hopes looking at the website but came away feeling let down. the location is great and I accept its an old building and we are in the middle of a pandemic but things could have been better. We had the redwood suite and it is dated, bathroom is huge but ceiling needs work done, bed is fine. The food at dinner was a big let down, I assume they are going cheap due to the covid situ, its not as per website and no excuse for servers not wearing their masks correctly. Shame.

Slightly disappointing
The house itself is set in beautiful grounds with its own fishing stream. The house needs quite a bit of updating. Both Dinner and Breakfast were very disappointing. The food was not at all well cooked and when served was not that hot. There was only one table set up in the Bar area with four chairs around it so there was nowhere to sit other than in the lounge, which unfortunately due to covid restrictions made it feel a bit like a waiting room.
