Once inside, it was bags down and aprons on with about 20 other chocolate enthusiasts. Once we were swiftly handed a glass of cold Prosecco (this was definitely ticking all the boxes so far), we were all set to learn about all things chocolatey...
Much to the ladies’ delight, a chisel-jawed Canadian entered the mix, and things honestly seemed like they just couldn’t get better. After introducing himself as our host, and to the fact he was actually a trained actor, he told us that we would firstly be making Martinis (with chocolate, naturally), before proceeding to show us how to expertly decorate our glasses with melted chocolate to jazz them up before we popped all of our scrummy ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
Our decorated Martini glasses weren’t quite up to the standard of our chocolatier/actor host, but we had a laugh with the other people on our table and gave it a good go. He made sure we were adding the right amounts of ingredients, with a chocolatey fact or two thrown in for good measure too.
He then animatedly explained all about the history of chocolate, whilst we sipped our Martini’s. Smiles all round!
Once our glasses were empty and our brains full of facts, we learned how to make our very own sweets and truffles flavoured to our liking, all to take home in a pretty little gift bag. The atmosphere really was the perfect mix. It was fun, creative, relaxed and gave us a thorough chocolate education.
By the end of the workshop we were all in good spirits: covered in chocolate, a little bit tipsy (the Prosecco just kept on coming) and seriously content. The impossible had happened – we’d had enough chocolate.
