Tank Driving Taster
About this experience
Get into the driving seat of a 17-tonne tank with this Tank Driving Taster and try your hand at some military vehicle mastery on a former WWII bombing range.
You’ll be getting your hands on an armed and armoured FV432 APC, driving for two laps before letting your fellow crew members try their hand at mastering the controls. You’ll experience both hatch-open driving for times of safety and the hatch-down, periscope-up driving that our fighting men and women need to do when safety’s paramount.
An expert instructor will be on hand to guide you through the course, and you’ll also free entry into the onsite military museum and collection. See everything from a 40s military helicopter to a Sherman tank, and spend the day surrounded by military tech on this driving day with a difference.

“An epic day out ”
Had a great time at Grizedale Forest GoApe. There is a good mix of activities in the treetop challenge including some epic zip wires. Definitely was pushed out of my comfort zone but always felt safe. The kids in our group loved it. There can be a bit of waiting around between the platforms. Our experience lasted well over three hours from start to finish so allow plenty of time. A very good value experience.
What's Included
- Two laps driving a 17-tonne tank as part of a crew of three
- An expert instructor to guide you through the course
- Drive a lap with hatches open and a lap guided by the periscope, each with their own challenges
- Free entry into the onsite military museum and collection
- Experience gift pack including personalised voucher and message card
What happens on the day?
After arriving at least 15 minutes before your experience is scheduled to start, you’ll check in at the tank driving reception before being equipped with a tank suit and Kevlar helmet.
Once you’re beside your vehicle in a crew of three your tank driving instructor will give you a detailed safety briefing before the first driver takes their place for two laps around the course. Once it’s your turn you’ll move into the driver’s position to take the tank around for two laps of your own, one with the hatches open, one looking through the periscope. At the end you’ll have free entry into the onsite military collection.
