Few vehicles are as iconic as the steam train and with this Steam Train Driving Taster Experience at Sherwood Forest Railway, you’ll have the opportunity to take full control of one on a 5/8th scale, 15'' gauge railway.
Kicking things off with a safety briefing, jump aboard the train for a one-to-one lesson with an experienced tutor on the only narrow gauge steam railway in Nottinghamshire. Whilst travelling through gorgeous rural scenery, you’ll be regaled with tips, information and fun facts about the locos.
The line boasts two level crossings, a tunnel and two stations so be sure to keep your wits about you. Whether a self-respecting rail enthusiast or simply someone looking for a day out with a difference, this experience is a must-try.

What happens on the day?
On arrival at Sherwood Forest Railway, you'll be warmly welcomed by the instructor for your experience. Kicking things off with a safety briefing, jump aboard the train for your one-to-one lesson as your tutor gives you tips, information and fun facts about the loco along the way.

Availability
Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Please book and take your experience before the expiry date.
This experience is available seven days a week from mid-February to the end of November. Excluded dates may apply.
We recommend you book at least 4 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
The driving aspect of the experience will last roughly 45 minutes, so please allow an hour for the full experience on the day.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
