What happens on the day?
On arrival at Benares in Mayfair you’ll be greeted by a member of staff before being shown up to the first floor to take your seats in the warm and tranquil dining room and enjoy your welcome champagne cocktails. You’ll be served eight tasting courses so you can discover the full range of Benares flavours, and if you’ve got any questions about the dishes the staff will be more than happy to answer them.

Availability
This experience is available for lunch 12.00 to 13.30 or dinner 17.30 to 21.30 Monday to Saturday, January to November. Date restrictions will include special occasion dates and bank holidays (e.g. Valentines, Mother’s Day, Christmas etc)
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow approximately 2 hours for the whole experience.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Amazing meal

Superb Indian Meal
This was a much delayed trip from 2020 and one that we were a little apprehensive about. The Restaurant however was welcoming with effective Covid procedures. The service was exceptional and the food quite simply the best Indian that we have tasted, including in India. Well done we would love to return

Amazing dinner
This was the best restaurant experience we ever had! The ambience and food was amazing but the best thing about were the staff who went out of their way to make us feel special throughout the whole evening. If you want to treat someone to a fantastic experience, this voucher is it.

Amazing!
Fantastic experience from start to finish. Nice cocktails with the poppadoms and pickles to start then an amuse bouche - before the menu started properly! Every course was beautifully spiced and balanced. The monkfish probably a highlight but chicken momo also delicious. The lamb main was superb, although it was the creamy buttery dhal that it was served with that was the biggest surprise. Service excellent throughout except for some confusion over the bottle of wine we were given to take home.

Absolutely amazing. Fantastic evening

Fabulous experience
Beautiful venue, welcoming staff and a truly wonderful meal. My husband and I had the most perfect evening at Benares last night. From the champagne cocktail at the start of the evening right through to dessert and the bottle of wine gifted at the end, we had a lovely evening. The restaurant was impressively busy but we never once felt forgotten or overlooked. One of the best Virgin Experiences we’ve had. And we’ve had a few! Highly recommend.

lovely dinner
Had a gift of 3 courses with wine and champagne cocktail for Christmas. Booked it in for my birthday in Feb. Easy to book. Turned up. Service was lovely; helpful but not intrusive. Wasn't rushed at all. Food was exceptional. Sommelier took the time to explain the wines. A great gift and a great experience.

Amazing experience!
My husband and I were bought this experience to celebrate our 40th birthday’s. Our visit to Benares was absolutely outstanding! The staff made our evening fantastic and made us feel very special. The atmosphere were gorgeous and although it was a large restaurant- it felt very intimate. The food was out of this world - simply the most amazing food we have ever tasted and although a taster menu there was plenty to eat! We would recommend this experience- We cannot wait to go back.

Spectacular
We eventually got around to using this experience (Christmas present) but it was worth the wait. Benares is a top class restaurant and the tasting menu we experienced was utterly sublime. The staff were most helpful in describing each dish as it arrived. There was no rush and we were made to feel very special for the entire visit. Chef Atul was even there!

Special celebration meal
I was really excited as soon as I opened this gift given to us by our Daughter to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary. Decided to stay in Mayfair to allow us to try the wine pairing we weren’t disappointed this was a real culinary treat especially for my husband who loved Indian food. Front the peach Bellini to the signed menu and take home gift this is a really special treat for a loved one they are likely to treasure memories of in years to come.

Belated birthday treat
We had a splendid dining experience at Benares. The courses were all lovely and if anything there was too much to eat when the final Lamb course was served. What do you do when this happens eat the lot and worry about your absolute filled tummy later Fantastic, thanks Atul. We will be back

Wonderful meal and service
The whole experience was fantastic, starting with the champagne cocktail that we had in the bar. The tasting menu was superb but almost too much to eat. Go hungry! The service was impeccable and we were not rushed, even though we were told our booking was for two hours. In the end we were there for 2 and a half hours. We had a choice of gift of wine or a cookbook and chose the book. It was really good value and would recommend wholeheartedly.

Brilliant experience
We booked this experience after 10 cancellations with Virgin for a different experience and I am so pleased that we did. I was worried that we might be treated differently as we were paying with a voucher but the service was impeccable from start to finish and the food was amazing, the restaurant also brought over all the extras liked the signed recipe book and the cocktails without us having to ask. 100% recommend.

A lovely treat!
Celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a gift from our son and daughter! We went to Benares restaurant for a 6 course tasting menu wi H lots of little extras! The service was impeccable with a wonder ambience. And the food ... every course was presented well and tasted as good as it looked. And the wine ... perfect! A lovely evening ❤️❤️

Fantastic meal
We had a lovely evening, taster menu was amazing, service was good and we had lovely cocktails selected from an extensive menu. The only issue was with booking. Weekend staff didn't seem to know anything but we called again during the week and the staff then were very knowledgeable. Would definitely visit again .

Excellent Evening
An overall excellent experience. Food & service was first class. Its worth checking out the wine list prior to arriving as it is very extensive & you are in Mayfair so don't expect a £20 bottle of house wine!!!! My one problem with the experience is not with the day itself but the Virgin website advertises this as 7 days a week experience excluding Valentines etc. This is not the case as it is Monday to Thursday & there are also restrictions on the table times in the evening.

Great evening!
All in all had a great time. Only thing was...we had a special requirement: 1 full veggie menu, and the other also veggie except we wanted to swap one of the dishes for the equivalent on the non-veggie menu. We made this request when we booked, when we confirmed the booking online, and also when we spoke to our waiter at the table....but they STILL got it wrong!! Oh well! Food and service were incredible (food not as hot as I’d like it to be though - it waits around a while before being served)

Brilliant idea but execution not perfect
The Virgin experience day idea was great. We had a lovely champagne cocktail, the tasting menu was fab and we got a printed menu to take away and present of a cookbook which was a lovely surprise (we could have chosen wine either). The restaurant was very busy on the night and the service did leave a bit to be desired but we feel that this was just on that particular night and would recommend the virgin experience days to all!

Benares - standards have slipped. Beware!
We have been to Benares several times since 2012. This was our first visit since Atul Kochar left. We dined the Tasting Menu. The food was OK but not as good as previously. However the service was very poor and our table was probably the worst in the place - very cold and drafty! The staff were well aware that we were on a Virgin Experience Day (a gift from our son). It felt like we were treated as 2nd class guests because of this. We won't be returning!
