Experience one of England’s most historic towns at its finest, with a visit to Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and the Medieval Guildhall, followed by a tranquil sightseeing cruise along the River Avon.
Discover the very room where Shakespeare was taught in the 1570s – you can even brush up on your Latin with a Tudor lesson with Master Thomas Jenkins. Explore one of the few remaining Medieval Guildhalls in the country, where you’ll be led through centuries of history by expert guides. Education complete, the two of you can step aboard a traditional vessel for a relaxing 30 minute cruise, past the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Holy Trinity Church, before turning around and passing under the 15th century Clopton Bridge. Audio tours are available for you to learn more about the sights and sounds of Avon as you go.

What happens on the day?
On arrival, you’ll be welcomed and shown into the Counting House, where you’ll be shown a short introductory film, presented by historian and broadcaster Michael Wood. Explore one of Stratford’s oldest buildings as you hear about the magnificent medieval all paintings; your Tudor lesson from Master Thomas Jenkins will follow upstairs in Shakespeare’s Schoolroom. There’ll then be time to experience the Georgian Classroom with Tudor games. Guides will be on hand throughout the whole visit.
Your cruise will depart from the moorings at Bancroft Gardens. Simply present your voucher to the crew for entry. Your trip lasts 30 minutes, taking in some of Stratford’s most picturesque sights, with an informative audio guide to accompany if you wish.

- River Sightseeing Cruise
Due to the historic nature of the boats there is no wheelchair access for anyone who is wheelchair bound. There are a couple of steps onto the boat and they can store wheelchairs separately for anyone who can walk very short distances and are able to negotiate the steps. Crew members are always available at the boarding point to assist with boarding and alighting the boat. Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall
Please note this venue will be closed from 1 October 2021 and will re-open in Spring 2022.
The experience is available seven days a week throughout the year from 11.00 to 17.00 (last admission 16.30) - closed 25 and 26 December. Exclusions may apply.
River Sightseeing Cruise
The season runs seven days a week from 1 April to 31 October, with trips commencing at 10.30 and running every 20 to 30 minutes.
Please allow up to 2 hours to visit Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall, 30 minutes to enjoy the River Cruise and allow additional time to travel between.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
