Brilliant day
The whole experience was very memorable and relaxed. Although the railway had a couple of problems with staff absences they overcame them very well. The Weathervane was great, very comfy accommodation the food was excellent both in the evening and at breakfast. All the staff both in the bar and hotel reception were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay relaxed and trouble free. Excellent all round.

Train ride and Hotel experience
Unable to book anything during Covid the moment Churnet Valley Railway opened we booked the experience along with a night at the Weathervane Hotel. The Hotel was excellent and being next to a Hungry Horse the food available was great. The train ride took place in heavy rain but scenery was fantastic and well worth the wait during the Covid period.

Fabulous day on a steam train
The whole Experience was brilliant, we loved the steam train ride at Churnet Valley, it was a tranquil two hours spent in lovely countryside. Couldn’t fault the overnight stay at The Wethervane hotel in Stoke, staff were friendly, room was clean and spacious and breakfast was fabulous!

Friendly break
From the moment we entered the Weathervane the staff greeted us with a smile and were friendly and helpful, and nothing was a problem, as were the morning serving girls in the Hungry horse. My only gripe was that the furniture in the bedrooms were a little 'tired' looking and need to be update to match the decor, otherwise a super little place to stay. The stream train (Churnet) experience was thoroughly enjoyed and was the highlight for my partner and staff also friendly and informative.

Fantastic Day
My husband and I had a fantastic time, the hotel and the food were really good and the reception staff at the hotel were very kind and extremely helpfull. The train ride was as good as we expected, it was a shame that due to covid we couldn't go to the museum, that however did not detract from our enjoyment. maybe we will try another time

Churnet Valley Rail Experience
The railway experience was good, after all it is a small railway run by volunteers. One of their WW2 American steam trains pulled the train on the outward journey and a diesel on the return. The Weathervane pub as perfectly adequate for 1 night. It was spoiled by a group of serveral families letting their children run wild in the pub at meal time on Sunday evening, despite staff protestations, but the food was nice and the staff helpful.

Comfortable bed
Although the weathervane is in need of a refurbishment, the staff are delightful and very helpful. The nearby dual carriageway was busy all night. So you might want a bedroom at the front of the building. The food served by the hungry horse was surprisingly good, well presented and efficiently delivered The train journey was very enjoyable, just a bit crowded ,obviously catching up on their income

A relaxing overnight break
I was bought a Virgin Experience Day voucher as a birthday present. The voucher included an overnight stay at The Weathervane Hotel in Stoke on Trent, and a trip on the Churnet Valley Steam Train. This was a lovely break from our usual routine, and at this particular time, enduring the restrictions of Covid 19. The train trip was lovely, although we were surprised to see young people flouting the face mask and safe distancing rules. The hotel was really good value, and the breakfast was great.

Very disappointed
The Riverside Hotel was very nice apart from the very small room. The restaurant and staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble. The Churnett Valley steam train experience was very poor. We did not ride a steam train but a diesel so feel somewhat misled as you are advertising a “steam train experince”. The views from the train were very poor and disappointing just very over grown hedgerows it could have been mainline track and any train from any station in the Uk very disappointed.

A good experience but could have been better
Appreciating this is not an ideal time to be trying to do experiences. Some aspects were done well, others less so. The accommodation was comfortable but the room was definitely ‘tired’. The biggest problem was a fan or motor that cut in and out every 40 seconds all night so our sleep was very disturbed. The best part was the food which was good. The train experience was good but due to COVID it did not stop anywhere and the museum visit wasn’t possible. Hence the rating.

One night break and churnet valley train trip
Hotel was cold and not very clean. Once the pub shut the noise level was so bad that even with the window closed you could still hear them, then came the motorcycle and cars speeding around the car park. The worst night sleep ever and the noise in the hotel was no better. The train trip it’s self was ok nothing amazing, felt rushed and a few of the staff were rude. The trip was not worth the money and I would not do it again. Our 10th wedding anniversary was rubbish thanks to this trip.

hotel was brilliant. Did not get train ride
Due to Covid19 this experience has been postponed several times. Booked hotel and tried to book train ride. There was problem booking train but could not get through to railway or virgin. When arrived hotel was lovely and staff very helpful. when went to board train found that even though experience has been extended Virgin has only ever extended the hotel. So could not go on the train as voucher for this part of the experience had expired. Will not be using again
