Lovely break at Ruthin Castle
Relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, close to the village. Lovely walks and plenty to explore. Had a lovely evening meal at the castle, slightly limited to Covid restrictions but was well managed and felt very safe. Breakfast good. All in all, a lovely stay.

Great weekend away
Ruthin Castle is a beautiful castle, especially at night with all the fairy lights! The peacocks roaming the grounds are so inquisitive! The inside of the castle is looking quite tired but the new owners took over during the autumn of last year and their plans to change Ruthin look fabulous!! The staff were lovely and very friendly. We had lunch in the bar and breakfast-again lovely! Ruthin is a lovely historic market town with some lovely shops and pubs! We would come back here!

Enjoyed this short break
Comfortable room in splendid surroundings. The hotel is in the centre of Ruthin but set in beautiful grounds. Quite quirky, as you would expect in a castle, but well-presented. Excellent attentive service. There are peacocks in the grounds and a 13th century original castle too.

Lovely stay in a suite
We stayed at the castle for one night. The suite was great and we got room service which was very good and fairly quick. We took tea in the Peacock garden as it was a lovely sunny day and was wonderful seeing the peacocks show off. I would recommend Ruthin Castle. The only downside is the dinner menu wasn’t that great for a vegetarian or Vegan (not much option) and the breakfast buffet had ran out of orange juice by the time we got there which was disappointing. Other than that great stay.

Great setting, a wonderful weekend!
The whole experience of Ruthin castle has been great ! The opportunity to wander around and stay overnight at a 13th century castle, the environment, the facilities, the spa, the restaurant all add in to a memorable stay. Very friendly staff especially in the reception. Also a lovely Welsh village to explore.

Great night away
Lovely location in an historic old castle. The hotel bedrooms are dated but the main areas are atmospheric and full of historic artefacts including the late lady de Grey. The staff were great especially Warren the porter who was a wealth of information about the castles historic visitors.

Relaxing break
Very nice location. Taking into consideration that the stay was in a castle the stay was cozy and relaxing. The room wasn't ready at the specified time and I had to go back to reception to check about it having been told they would come to find me. However the staff were poilte, helpful and welcoming. My room was clean and cozy and I couldn't have had a nicer time. The spa was closed for renovation which was disappointing so I will have to go back.

Crossed off bucket list
Always wanted to stay in a castle and this does not disappoint. We had in fact received two one night stays and used them together. From the impressive driveway to peacocks on the lawns, delightful bedrooms and the most amazing duvets. Will need to plan a return to sample the Medieval banquet evenings.

Anniversary celebration
Very difficult to get in touch to book . Initially we were allocated a room which was not pleasant , moved to another but there was a strong odour . Helpful staff reallocated a room which was lovely . Excellent dinner - superb food and great service . Comfortable bed . Beautiful gardens and enjoyed seeing the resident peacocks . Interior does need refurbishing but it was a lovely experience which we will repeat . This was actually our second visit

short visit to North Wales
We had booked an extra night so stayed for 2 nights, the Castle and grounds were very nice, the staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was nice, the only down side was that the warm air heating was noisy and didn't appear to reach temperate using the digital touch pad, the electric radiator in the bath room as red hot so door was left open to warm up the room, Ruthin Town and the surrounding area was very interesting.

Beautiful venue
Ruthin Castle is stunning. Our room was quirky and comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing! Food was fab, staff were helpful and informative. Richard on reception deserves special mention for friendliness. We were told before arrival that there was a wedding on, but not told that this would mean there wasn't a quiet corner in the bar to have pre-dinner drinks, nor that no cocktails would be available, which was disappointing. We'd love to come again at a less busy time.

The voucher was a Xmas present that we exchanged from the original experience as this suited us better. The castle stay was a lovely treat, Ruthin Castle was lovely, very tranquil and relaxing. The staff were a credit, nothing was too much, and they continually made sure we were enjoying our stay.

Anniversary celebration
On arrival were greeted warmly and our room was ready before time. Large room in character with building.Grounds were interesting to wander around. We didn't have dinner in Castle because of price and menu choices so we went a few miles away to a superb pub with views and amazing food- Three Pigeons. Breakfast - staff need to be better trained - aware of customers needs. Dining room full and staff had to be asked for plates, bowls, food. No pastries left. Eggs were cold. Get there early!

Great place full if history.
Loved it, a hotel full of history, very quaint. Staff are very friendly. The room we stayed in was splendid with a king size bed. Clean and well furnished. There are beautiful grounds to discover which are outstanding, some of the best I have seen. The hotel is very close to Ruthin village which is walkable, there are plenty of local pubs too.

Lovely staff and great experience
The whole place was clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The castle itself needs a lot of work to get it to the standard of other castles in the area. We managed to get to see the locked off sections, such as the dungeons and torture chamber, but it is a case of asking. The hotel room was clean but the mattress was hard. The sauna didn't work when we were there and the steam room could have done with the essence, such as eucalyptus, in there. Joyful experience though.

Could have been better
We used this for our 8th wedding anniversary, returning to where we got married. I mentioned this on booking and we were wished congratulations and happy anniversary but not offered any upgrade or something to make our stay more special. The air con didn’t work in our room. The sauna was out do order in the Spa. We eventually spoke to someone about the air con and were given a fan and a bottle of Prosecco when my husband mentioned it was our anniversary but this was at 11pm. Shame wasn’t better

Ruthin Castle
Lovely hotel upon entry. Grounds are beautiful. However, the room they gave us was very small and had no seating area at all. It was more like something you'd expect in a B&B not a castle. Food and drink is very expensive in our opinion. So even though you buy a bargain, take plenty money!!! The area it's sell is lovely.

Not as grand as it looks
Basic room with en suite, not grand at all, very tired looking building, quite tatty in places , free standing bath with a built in plug that wasn’t working correctly, so hence didn’t use, someone did fix it an hour before leaving, an hairdryer on the wall that didn’t work, and an iron that was highly burnt and it turned out didn’t work either, luke warm breakfast buffet, don’t know what was Welsh about it? Staff member was cool and quite hostile when approached about the issues, v.disappointed

Needs maintenance
Beautiful grounds, has character but poorly maintained- light bulbs not functioning, drawers sticking, bathroom fitting falling off, cracked window pane. Great places to eat in area, recommend On the Hill. Peacocks wandering in grounds can be noisy. Buffet breakfast adequate in fish or variations on eggs other than fried available . Room acceptable, not special

We were bought this experience as a wedding present and were hoping it was the idea get away for half term! The hotel however, was tired, tatty and in places dirty! We were very disappointed that the bathroom was full of mould and that the bedside tables and blinds were dirty! It is upsetting that such a beautiful setting was let down by poor housekeeping and maintenance!

Disappointed!
The room was spacious but even with all the lights on it was too dark to read. Several light bulbs did not work. Breakfast on the first morning should have been waiter service but was buffet style. The bacon was almost raw and the fried eggs appeared to have been there far too long and were dried up. The coffee was only lukewarm. The plates were cold. No explanation or apology was offered. However, on the second morning we were served a hot breakfast in the correct manner.
