Very relaxing birthday experience
My wife and I really enjoyed our trip on the steam train on the Spa Valley railway; getting off and on at different stops gave us chance to explore. We would recommend Groombridge Place gardens in Summer. We had chance to stand in the cab and visit the heritage line's workshop. After difficulties actually booking our night at the Mercure Hotel Tunbridge Wells, we had a comfortable room and the staff were helpful. Our dinner was well cooked but breakfast items needed replenishing more efficiently

Day out
The Mercure Hotel in Pembury was clean, nice room, friendly staff. Plenty of choice of food, wine was expensive. Got the bus to Tunbridge Wells, the trip was a diesel not steam, depends on the day, was a lovely journey. Little museum, lots of history.

Day of steam!
Very enjoyable day of on and off steam /diesel trains at Spa Valley Railway. Easy to book and lots to see during the day - even time for a quick wander through The Pantiles. Friendly and helpful staff. Then the experience continued with dinner, bed and breakfast at Mercure hotel. Large room, good food and a late check out made for a very relaxing couple of days.

A great weekend for my 70th birthday
Cannot fault this experience, Hotel Mercure, Tunbridge Wells was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Dining was excellent, plenty of choice. Very clean and plenty of open space in the gardens to enjoy a drink The Spa Valley railway was brilliant, great scenery, and staff were very friendly and didn't mind discussing their roles within the railway. I would recommend this experience to anyone.

Lovely day out
Spent a lovely day on the Spa Valley railway, jumping on and off the steam trains and exploring some of the stops. Found a lovely pub lunch in Groombridge before a very good three course dinner at the Mercure, Tunbridge Wells. The staff were all friendlyand the room was comfortable. Next morning we had breakfast before a shopping day in Tunbridge Wells. A very enjoyable gift.

Steaming on an away day
Had a great two day experience.Hotel and food were good with excellent service. The days outing on the steam train lived up to our expectations all good value . I would say that the restrictions that are in force regarding availability at weekends ie none from May to September at the hotel would make me reconsider using these Virgin Experiences again

A thoroughly good weekend away
I was given the One Night Break with Dinner and a Ride on the Spa Valley Railway for two experience as a birthday present, and my wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. The trip behind firstly a steam locomotive, and then a heritage diesel, plus being able to look round the various stations and see the restoration works going on was great fun. The hotel was extremely comfortable, the staff were most helpful, and the food excellent. I would recommend this experience to anyone.

Spa valley railway and Mercure hotel
Started at High rocks, parking is free, SVR need to invest in a sign as the station is not easily visible through High Rocks Inn garden. We spent about 3 hours on 4 trains, visited all 4 stations briefly. Groombridge is immaculate, credit to staff/volunteers. Ended with nice lunch in High rocks Inn garden, overlooking the station. Mercure was straight forward to find and book in. Spacious room and very impressed with £50 allowance for evening meal, spend it how you like. Great day out

Steam Train adventure for 2
This was a trip down memory lane, watching steam trains at the end of my grandparents garden. It was lovely the staff very friendly and quite informative. The experience was a gift from my children as a special birthday present which my husband and I enjoyed. The hotel was lovely staff friendly room as they said cosy and comfortable, food was excellent so all in all a good day and night out. More for adults rather than children .

Loved it !
We had no trouble organising our stay booked the hotel by phone and downloaded our train ticket online. The train was steam one way and diesel back, it was a nice trip. The staff at the Mercure hotel were very friendly, our room was lovely we had a separate lounge and bedroom. We both enjoyed our evening meal. The cooked breakfast was hot and there was plenty choice. It was altogether a most enjoyable trip.

A enjoyable experience
The trip on the Spa Valley Railway was enjoyable - especially for steam train enthusiasts. There is the choice on the timetable of steam or diesel engines. We went from Tunbridge Wells to Eridge - approximately 25 minutes - but would recommend doing it the other way round. There is a better car park at Eridge and at Tunbridge Wells there is more to see in the town before catching a later train back. The hotel was comfortable with a good restaurant for dinner and breakfast

A great weekend for steam enthusiasts
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Spa Valley Railway, whose staff were very friendly and helpful. We were lucky with excellent weather, and enjoyed several trips up and down the line. It was unfortunate that on the day of our visit, the station halt at High Rocks was closed as there was a wedding at the hotel that day. Our stay in the Mercure Tunbridge Wells Hotel was excellent, with a delicious evening meal included. However the online booking process was complicated and slow.

A welcomed break
We were affected by the Covid lockdowns and restrictions in the period of our break but Virgin were really good at extending the expiry. Our only problem was the fact that you have to book the hotel and railway trip separately. We were in Staycation time so this was hard. Having said all that, we had a pleasant break. The hotel was good and the railway was definitely worth a visit.

Nice day on a short train ride
Staff were excellent, although web site was not accurate in terms of the type of engine pulling the train each way, which needed a train enthusiast traveller to explain that the diesel engine pulled the train in one direction and then the steam engine the opposite way.

A pleasant stay in an interesting area
The hotel stay was enjoyable. The hotel's decor has seen better days but the facilities good and staff attentive. The steam train was cut short because of technical problems which was slightly disappointing. We enjoyed exploring the area and the town of Tunbridge Wells. The hotel was not central to the town (a 20 minute drive away) but the location was nice for local walks. The hotel pool was a bonus.

Wonderful Day and Weather
Parked on Eridge Station right outside free! Got on there on steam or diesel train depending on time. Got out at Groombridge and walked to Groombridge Place . Unfortunately was not at its best and thought the gardens should have been looked after and were left perhaps time of year! You cannot go in the house. Then train to Tunbridge Wells. Walked to The Pantiles heaving with people probably because of good weather . Afterwards to Mercure Hotel. Excellent. Big room. Great food. Lovely day!

Railway great, hotel could've been a little better
The Spa Valley Railway is lovely, with great and friendly (volunteer) staff. Some of the stations don't have much around so it's worth researching in advance, since trains are around 1.5 hours apart. The Mercure was pleasant but just average. Disappointed that Virgin advertise this as having £50 to spend on the evening meal, but actually this only applies if you order from one specific menu, and excludes drinks. Of course no-one told us this until afterwards.

Accommodation and Steam Train ride
Enjoyable experience at the Mercure Hotel in Tunbridge Wells, excellent evening meal in the restaurant backed up with good quality breakfast. Room most pleasing with comfortable bed. Steam Train ride on the Spa Valley Railway followed the next day, but views from the train not as good as some other heritage railways, the train was delayed approx twenty minutes when a tree partly fell on the line, but the staff removed the debris with their saws. Disappointed the souvenir shop closed though.

A great day out
We were lucky and had a good day out despite the fact that the steam train broke down!! We went from Tunbridge Wells but if we do it again we would start at the other end, as there is lots to do in Tunbridge Wells and nothing but a pub at the other end. With a two hour wait for the next steam train there was not enough to do. Also easier to park.

Let the train take the strain
We had the overnight hotel stay first. Staff very pleasant throughout our stay. two course meal and drinks which was covered by the £50 limit. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was Buffet style.hotel is about ten minutes away from railway . Parking at Tunbridge Wells West is nightmare. go to Eridge where parking is easier and cheaper. Train journey pleasant. Get off at High Rocks and walk around the unusual landscape. Rejoin train. Small railway museum at Tun.Wells

Let down by hotel
Lovely day out on the Spa Valley Railway, relaxing journey by both classic diesel and steam loco. Got to the hotel to be told that they had cancelled the booked as they did not have the voucher number, this I had given them when booking. Thankfully they still had a few rooms left, lovely meal and good choice on the menu.
