Learn the ins and outs of the world’s most complex spirit with this One Day Whisky School with the Whisky Lounge, London. By the end of the day, you’ll come away with a better understanding of the ‘Water of Life’.
Your full day experience will get underway at approximately 10.00 where your knowledgeable host will start taking you through the history and traditions of whisky. No whisky education is complete without knocking some back, and you’ll sample every whisky on offer on the day. To break up a rather heady afternoon, you’ll pause for a light lunch along the way.
Hosted in the opulent surroundings of Malmaison, you’ll take home a Glencairn Whisky Tasting Glass as well as a signed Whisky Lounge ‘Whisky School’ Certificate. An informative and merry day out not to missed!

What happens on the day?
On arrival at Malmaison, London, you’ll be met by your host before proceedings get underway. Your full day experience begins at approximately 10.00 and concludes at around 16.30. You’ll sample between 20 and 25 different high-quality whiskies as well as enjoying a light lunch.
You’ll come away with a new found appreciation for good whisky, as well as a Glencairn tasting glass and souvenir certificate as keepsakes of your day.

This experience is available on selected dates throughout the year. Please note: new class dates will be released soon.
We recommend you book at least eight weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow approximately 6 hours 30 minutes for the whole experience.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Well lubricated day!
Superb day with huge range of whiskies to sample, not just Scottish, but German Swedish, American and Japanese as well. Great to experience the contrasts. Ed Bates our “teacher” was an entertaining and extremely knowledgeable host, full or personal anecdotes. We ran an hour long as everyone was enjoying it. Really liked the “blend your own whisky”!exercise which I won with my friend. It really was “Clachan na Coan” 😁

Good experience learned a lot about whisky!
A whisky school run by the Whisky Lounge. Lasted about 6 hours and was very informative about the origins of Whisky in Scotland and Ireland and how it has developed over the centuries. Very well presented and we got to taste over twenty whiskies from all over the world. Lunch was good at the hotel and all in all a highly recommended treat.

Everything and more
I haven’t done any kind of ‘tasting’ experiences before but this delivered everything I expected and more! It was educational, we tried over 20 different Whiskys and the Instructor was fun, down to earth, the perfect host for a great day and he clearly knew his stuff and loved his job which was really refreshing and added to the enjoyment of the experience. Can’t thank them or recommend them enough.

A great informative day
We were made very welcome and enjoyed every minute of it. The course was delivered in a very interesting way. Our tutor knew his stuff. It's a great opportunity to sample a wide range of Whiskies without getting sloshed! Highly recommended.

Super Christmas present
A most enjoyable day with Rupert finding all about the history, processes, geography and types of whisky. Oh and the tasting - lots of tasting! An enthusiastic group of people took it all in either side of a very nice lunch. We finished by blending our own whisky miniature and left quite happy.

Great day
This was a great present for my 60th birthday. Not only do you get to drink a lot of whiskey and I mean a lot! But I actually learnt a lot too. The person talking to us was clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about whiskey ont thing was it was meant to come with a two course light lunch and we only got one course . Food was very nice though. All in all a great day out

Amazing whisky experience
It was an amazing day! If you want to learn all about whisky I definitively recommend the experience. Ed knows all about the whisky history, regional specificities, production process and all the tips and tricks to get the most out of each sip. It was interactive and very dynamic and you get to taste a lot of different whisky!

Excellent day tasting 20+ whiskies learning the complexities and tastes. Guy, our tutor, was very knowledgeable. Tasty lunch delivered by Hotel du Vin chef to make for a wonderful day all whisky drinkers should experience

Very informative great day out
Host was very knowledgeable and group we had was friendly. After sampling 20 different whiskeys they get you to take an exam that gets sent away for marking!!!

Absolutely fantastic
Outstanding! Absolutely fantastic, so much fun! Brilliant, hilarious host, clearly very credible in the whiskey world; knows everything there is to know about whiskey! Be warned, there is a tremendous amount of whiskey to be drunk, so make sure you have a big breakfast before arrival! I have been on similar courses where the samples are controlled and limited, but here there was a never-ending supply of different samples, all delicious, and we even got a chance to mix our own! Ten out of ten!

Whisky in the making
A very interesting session full of various facts and misconceptions about whisky. Started with the history , the making of , the various countries and varieties involved. How best to enjoy whisky with numerous sampling Followed by a practice session of putting together my own blend of whisky recipe with a free glass and bottle with my mixture. The session was made enjoyable with humour in dispersed during the session.

Cracking Whisky Tour!
Really enjoyed the Whisky Lounge day. Ed was a great instructor and despite knowing a fair bit about Whisky I learned a lot. Everything from history, way it's made, how to drink and how to blend a wee dram. At the end we had a whistle-stop tour of international whisky, tasting about 25 in all. It's fair to say you aren't going to come away from this sober, but actually it's a well organised day. Pace yourself - you'll have a great time.

Excellent
This Virgin Experience Day for The Whisky Lounge was a birthday present to my wife & myself from our kids. The booking process was very easy with a good choice of dates although more venues across the country would be an advantage. The day itself was just great, we chose Manchester as our location and the venue was just 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly station. Our host, Rupert, was very knowledgeable and the whole day was very enjoyable with around 25 different whiskies being sampled.

One day whisky school with the whisky lounge
An extremely enjoyable day with a remarkably large selection of whiskys to sample. The host (Ru) was very knowledgeable and, whilst following an outline, was always happy to answer questions and talk about areas that weren't in that outline.

Absolutely fantastic
Wow what a great day. Great fun learning about Whisky and fantastic fun trying some out. We were really well looked after and Eddie our tutor was excellent. I cannot recommend this day enough - you won't be disappointed.

An excellent presentation by a very knowledgeable person. The whole day was very informative and thoroughly enjoyed by me. I would recommend it to anybody who likes a "wee dram"!

A lot of Whisky!
An interesting and very informative day, albeit the hotel (not the hosts fault) being totally disorganised! Lunch was cold and poor, but this again was the fault of the venue. Whisky tasting was great fun, and learnt a lot about the different varieties and regions - certainly no shortage on the tasting front!

The day was a panic birthday present from someone who knew I was a whisky buff. I had thought that most of the day would be a waste because I know the basics of production etc.Fortunately among the " learners" there were two others who had a similar knowledge and that helped the day along because we could share experiences with the newcomers.The day was well presented and no shortage of new and interesting whiskies.The presenter knew his stuff and I would recommend the day to those wanting to learn about the golden liquid.But ,as yet ,no certificate.

A bit of a mixed experience
Whiskey Lounge was very helpful when booking. Trainer on the day was knowledgeable. It was all quite serious. A bit like we were on a works course rather than a fun birthday treat but I did learn a lot about whiskey and really enjoyed that part of it. We only had 6 glasses each to try 24 whiskeys so we had to keep tipping them out and rinsing the glasses which was a shame. The food was APPALLING. A warmish buffet (cold chips) and quite disgusting. We abandoned it and went out to eat elsewhere.

Sadly learned nothing but plenty of spirits to taste if required. Apart from consuming spirits anyone could just as well as read the accompanying booklet. Venue was okay but two course lunch was poor with little or no choice. Only 5 persons attended with some no shows. All had received the experience as a gift. Generally poor value but the organiser did his best.
