Ever dreamt of being a zoo keeper? With this half day Junior Animal Keeper Experience at Millets Falconry Centre, you and an accompanying adult can get up close to some of the world’s most fascinating species, including meerkats, raccoons, reptiles, birds of prey and many more.
You’ll get a unique look into the world of zoo keeping, and you can find out all about a variety of creatures and how to care for them with one of the Keepers. There’s plenty of time for questions, too, so you can make sure you leave with loads of newfound knowledge about these weird and wonderful creatures!

“My daughter just loved it.....”
What a day! It was a bit wet and dreary but the experience kept my daughter (and me!) fully entertained from the minute it started. The lady who showed us around was fantastic with the children sharing enough information to educate and engage them but not so much that it went over their heads and lost their interest. The meerkat cleaning/feeding was a huge hit. Having a meercat on her lap literally made her day! The bird display was fascinating and getting to fly them themselves an added bonus!

What happens on the day?
Your Junior Animal Keeper Experience at Millets Falconry Centre starts at 09.00, so make sure you’re there at least 5 minutes beforehand.
You’ll need to hand in your voucher on arrival, and then you’re off! Head behind the scenes into the world of exotic animals, and meet some fantastic creatures, including reptiles, meerkats, skunks and more. Your experienced Keeper will be taking you through, explaining about the lives of each creature and how they’re cared for. There’s plenty of time for questions, and once your experience finishes, you can enjoy the rest of the day to explore the Falconry Centre.

Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 8
- Maximum age:16
- Participants must be accompanied by an adult (1 x adult included in the cost)
- Includes all day entry to the falconry centre
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability
The experience is available on two dates available each month, mainly weekends and weekdays during school holidays from February to December
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available (you are advised to allow four to six for weekend bookings) . All bookings are subject to availability.
The Junior Animal Keeper Experience will last approximately 3 hours, please allow additional time to visit the rest of the centre.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

This was a birthday gift for our 12 year old daughter. It was brilliant from start to finish, our guide was fantastic and was so patient. Lots of animals with plenty of handling we didn’t feel rushed at all. The meerkats were a highlight! The gift included the falconry show which was very interesting and informative.
