Take to the water for an adrenaline-fueled adventure with this Half Day Learn to Drive a Powerboat, where you’ll be taught to drive a RIB.
You’ll be issued with PPE including life jackets and waterproof clothing before the team give you a rundown of the agenda. The highly qualified instructors will give a boat safety briefing covering everything from where to sit to what to do in case of emergencies.
The instructor will take the boat out of the harbour, before handing it over to you and giving a quick session on basic manoeuvres including parking, turning and slow speed handling. Learn to handle the boat at high speeds before heading down to the UNESCO registered Forth Rail Bridge and upriver to Blackness Castle. Along the way, you’ll be instructed on turning at speed and points of interest highlighted, before returning to Port Edgar for about 12.30.

What happens on the day?
On arrival to Port Edgar, South Queensferry, you’ll be warmly welcomed by the team. At the start of the session, you’ll be issued with PPE and given a quick briefing on the content of the day. You’ll then be given a boat safety briefing and shown the basic controls of the boat. The instructor will take the boat out of the harbour for you and give you a session on the basic manoeuvres. Once you’ve tackled handling the boat at high speeds, you’ll travel to the UNESCO registered Forth Rail Bridge and upriver to Blackness Castle. Along the way, you’ll be instructed on turning at speed and points of interest highlighted, before returning to Port Edgar for about 12.30.

Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 8
- You are able to 2 other guests with you for the experience, as passengers
- All site areas are accessible, however participants do need to be able to support their own weight to be able to use the seating
- Wheelchair users can be accommodated by notifying the centre to enable boat modification
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability

This experience is available seven days a week throughout the year. Exclusions may apply.
The half day will run between 09.30 and 12.30.
We recommend you book at least 4 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
