Take a step back in time!
This was a wonderful day out. The Great Central Railway is a preserved part of an original railway. All of the staff are really accessible and friendly - even the maintenance team in their flourescent jackets! We explored Leicester North and Rothley stations to the full. The sights and smells are lovely, and the bacon, brie and cranberry sandwiches at Ellis's Tea room. I could go on, but just do this and enjoy. We did not even go on one of the special event days!

An amazing experience.
A thoroughly enjoyable day and I am in awe of the incredible amount of effort that so many people have put in over the years,to bring back such an amazing part of what is such a rich part of our heritage. What a shame that so much was destroyed in the first place by government ministers. All I spoke with, especially the footplate crews, were unstinting with their time in answering all of my many questions. A big 'thank you' to all. As a well known actor once said,"I'll be back"!

A Day Spent On The Great Central Steam Railway
An excellent day spent travelling between the Leicester North Station, set in the 1960's style, & Loughborough Station, set in the 1950's style, with stops at Rothley Station, set in the Edwardian style, & Quorn & Woodhouse Station, set in the 1940's style. The carriages had been excellently restored, and all the staff & volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable. A very memorable day, ended with an excellent afternoon tea at the Butler Henderson Cafe at the Quorn & Woodhouse Station.

Superb day out
This gift was bought for my wife and I was her + 1. From the beginning it was a great day out even if trains are not your thing. The staff were very informative and helpful. We travelled on all of the steam trains and managed to have a break at every station too. The entire railway and buildings are an accurate representation of the period intended. As the weekend was a steam festival a large number of trains were running and this was all superbly organised without delays or problems.

A late, late birthday present
This was a birthday present from my daughter last year but due to covid was unable to do it until now. A good day out enjoying a ride on the steam train that was running. There was also a diesel engine running but i didn't experience that one. The staff are very friendly and the stations along the line were delightful. The buffet room at Loughborough wasn't open but there were refreshments available on the train and at a couple of the stations on route.

A Good Day Out
The day started with the arrival of the Warship class diesel, "Onslaught", to our station ready for loading onto a low-loader. We spent time at the 1940s station of Quorn before travelling to Leicester North and back to Loughborough, which is the star of the show. The staff were all friendly, helpful, approachable, welcoming and well-informed. We both enjoyed the day, which combined history with transport technology. Well done GCR.
