Prepare for an adrenaline-fueled adventure with this Learn to Drive a Powerboat Full Day.
Once issued with PPE including life jackets and waterproof clothing, receive a rundown of the day. The highly qualified instructors will give a safety briefing including what to do in case of emergencies. Beginning with basic manoeuvres including parking, turning and slow speed handling, you’ll also learn to handle the boat at high speeds. Your route will take you to the UNESCO registered Forth Rail Bridge and upriver to Blackness Castle. Along the way, you’ll be instructed on turning at speed and points of interest highlighted.
In the afternoon, you’ll adventure to the Islands (Inchcolm Island, Oxcars, and Inchmickery). Accompanied by an instructor, land on Inchcolm Island to admire the 13th Century Abbey, diverse wildlife and explore the enormous Oxcars lighthouse amongst other points of interest. You’ll return to Port Edgar at about 16.00.

What happens on the day?
On arrival to Port Edgar, South Queensferry, you’ll be warmly welcomed by the team. At the start of the session, you’ll be issued with PPE and given a quick briefing on the content of the day. You’ll then be given a boat safety briefing and shown the basic controls of the boat. The instructor will take the boat out of the harbour for you and give you a session on the basic manoeuvres. Once you’ve tackled handling the boat at high speeds, you’ll travel to the UNESCO registered Forth Rail Bridge and upriver to Blackness Castle. In the afternoon, you’ll adventure to the Islands with an instructor. Landing on Inchcolm Island, explore the 13th Century Abbey, view diverse wildlife and the enormous Oxcars lighthouse. You’ll return to Port Edgar at about 16.00.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 8
- You are able to take up to 5 other guests with you for the experience, as passengers
- All site areas are accessible, however participants do need to be able to support their own weight to be able to use the seating
- Wheelchair users can be accommodated by notifying the centre to enable boat modification
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability
Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Please book and take your experience before the expiry date.
This experience is available Wednesday to Sunday throughout the year. Exclusions may apply.
The full day will run between 09.30 and 16.00 with an hour for lunch.
We recommend you book at least 4 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
