Overview
Explore 70 years of the British music scene through Liverpool’s Cunard Building, and take a self-guided tour across galleries, exhibitions and over 600 musical artefacts together.
Opened in March 2017, the British Music Experience is the only place in the world you can wander through the evolution of British music from its 1945 jazz roots through to the present day, taking in collection pieces like Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust costumes, Noel Gallagher’s Union Jack Sheraton guitar, Dusty Springfield’s stage outfits and loads more. Each zone is split by evolutionary steps and offshoots rather than decade, meaning you’ll never be sure what’s round the corner.
You’ll find an area of Gibson guitars for some on-the-spot learning and playing, with drum kits and keyboards too. Dance the Decades, watch some holographic performances and just get generally interactive – it’s time to revel in the soundtrack of our nation’s history!

Very interesting.
The time to go round was supposed to be 90 minutes, we stayed 4 hours we had so much fun. It was really interesting going back through the decades of music. Listening to the artists relate their experiences was great. Having a go on all the instruments was fun, I always wanted to play the drums!! The only let down was there was no food, we thought we would be able to get breakfast there so we were hungry all morning, however there were some sandwiches delivered later in time for lunch.

Trip through the ages
Was a great place was impressed that the tickets last 12 months so we can return. Only downside was the microphone booth was closed for obvious reasons but other than that worth a visit if your visiting the area. The staff were friendly And excellent in terms of Covid safety the best we’ve seen managing it with very high standards of cleaning practises in place. Literally as soon as someone used the touch screens they discreetly cleaned them after use but without you feeling rushed or followed.

A really great music experience, every decade covered with memorabilia, songs and bits of information I didn’t know. Great fun, nostalgic, welcoming staff, and an interactive section for the musicians amongst us. Lived up to everything I’d read about and this area in Liverpool is a great place to spend a few dates too!

BRILLIANT!
Everything you could wish for if you are an avid music fan or general interest. You won't be disappointed - actual costumes, instruments and memorabilia are all put together impeccably to recreate timescales and events that are just amazing and with many interactions available. There's an area to play actual instruments - keyboards, drums, guitars, whether learner or pro and you can sing and dance too. Every member of staff so very helpful in every way.

Lovely Day Out
Went along and we were greeted by a warm welcome at the desk where everything was explained in a very friendly manner. We got headphones as part of our deal which I would recommend. The displays were interesting and the “audio” from the headphones brought it to life. The cafe was reasonably priced again with friendly staff. Also we could leave the venue and return as we had our wristbands and with the Mersey Ferry being directly across the road - we took a trip and then returned to the Museum.

Brilliant hostalgia and superb 'live' instruments
We had a great afternoon at this experience day. The information collected about the various eras and types of music was very interested. We found some of the 'roller ball' displays a bit difficult to access. The Gibson interative was really very good and as a budding guitarist it was special to play all the different guitars. I am certainly not that proficient om the guitar but I didn't think the top level of the video instruction session was that difficult...raise the bar further!

Day of nostalgia!
Both of us loved the experience but some of the groups from UK were missing. The Hollies for instance? The instructions on yr instruments you could try playing at the end of the display is useless! You need to tell people in the recording which thing to use (buttons etc.) I had a try on all different music instruments, but without giving any SPECIFIC advice on where to operate, trying to play the instruments was too hard 2 understand. The nostalgia brill.U need more computor music figures than George.

Brought back all kinds of memories, great set up.
Fab half day visit started in the Star Cafe cuppa coffee and bacon butty. Then through the main exhibition which was thoughtfully laid out in chronological order from Skiffle to the present day. Any budding musicians can then interact with a various instruments, sing in a studio anddance to all the favourite genres over 60 years. Great stuff.

Music through my lifetime
Great auido/video show of music that I know of since my childhood when likes of Cliff Richard and The Shadows, The Beatles, David Bowie and progressive rock group Yes were at their best right up to present day with artistes such as Ed Sheeran (who spent several months in my home town of Guildford at the music school). Only disappointment of voucher - it did not include the use of BME's headphones for audio narrative during the tour. Recommend Virgin include this feature. Otherwise brilliant !!
