“A proper experience ”
We really enjoyed our Blacksmith experience. It was very hands on and I have some blisters to prove it. Helpful and friendly staff. Set in beautiful countryside.
“Fascinating but exhausting ”
I made a knife (with a little help from the guys) at Oldfield Forge from a piece of steel bar. It was a hot day and the hearths in the forge throw out a lot of heat. In the three hour session I must have hammered the workpiece on my anvil for at least 90 minutes. Several operations were required to shape the knife so it was a fascinating learning experience. As a 71 year old I was quite exhausted at the end so I would consider booking a session with that in mind.
“Excellent experience”
The team at Oldfield are great, knowledgable and welcoming. Good range of things that can be made - I did a toasting fork, my friend made a cheese knife - which you can make more individual with guidance from the tutors. We thoroughly enjoyed it and are already planning to go back .
