Meet the beautiful big cats of Dartmoor Zoo, with a day spent getting a unique insight into the life of a keeper and getting close to some of nature's most intimidating predators.
Not for the faint hearted, your jam-packed day will involve interaction with five different species including lions, tigers and jaguars. Your day will entail every aspect of care, beginning with an induction and safety briefing, before food preparation, feeding, helping out with daily events and working with the animals. Throughout the day, you’ll also see the likes of wolves as you work alongside the passionate zookeepers.
You’ll enjoy lunch in the Jaguar Restaurant while enjoying wonderful views over the enclosures. One for the brave, the adventurous and the curious, this fantastic day out will exceed all your expectations!

What happens on the day?
On arrival at 08.00 you will be greeted by a friendly member of staff and offered refreshments in the Jaguar Restaurant as you go over your induction and safety briefing. Then you will spend 2 hours involved with the lions, tigers and jaguars, getting up close and learning how they are cared for by the keepers. Then there will be a break before you spend time with the wolves and then prepare dinner for the big cats.
Following your break for lunch it's time to feed the cats. You will finish at around 15.00 having spent an exciting day with keepers, getting an insight into every aspect of the care they give to the cats.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 18 (Proof of age may be required)
- The experience is not recommended for anyone who is pregnant, has a high blood pressure, or is of a nervous disposition
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability
Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
The experience is available seven days a week.
We recommend you book at least three months in advance to ensure that dates are available. Demand is high and places are strictly limited, so you're advised to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow 6 hours for the whole experience. The time spent actually participating is approximately 5 hours.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Fantastic day
What an experience, memories that will stay with us forever. The power of these majestic animals makes everything else fade into insignificance. We’d like to thank Hannah & Kate for showing us around and they’re in-depth knowledge was outstanding. Lunch in the jaguar restaurant was also recommended and didn’t fail to satisfy. We loved meeting all of the animals but the big cats were the most impressive.

Getting to work with Lions, Tigers, Jaguars, Cheetahs, Wolves and Raccoon Dogs was a wonderful experience. Well organised and you get to be so close to the cats.

Big cats
An excellent day, with incredibly close contact with the lion, tigers and lynx among others. Time was spent cleaning enclosures, both inside and out as well as putting out food. Keepers were very friendly and knowledgeable. The inclusive lunch was also great - good choice, and unlimited drinks as well. A day to remember.

Close up Big cats
had a really excellent day at Dartmoor Zoo, staff were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. we came closer to all the carnivores than normal, looked in their eyes and knew they were looking at us, feed them, cleaned them and watched them interact with each other and their keepers. truly a worthwhile experience that we will always remember and treasure.

Such majestic animals!!
An amazing day spent being Big Cat Keepers for the day, getting up close and personal with these powerful yet graceful cats was fabulous, a packed day of expanding our knowledge and education, hanging meat for enrichment tasks and seeing them close enough to feel their breath this day was just magical, highly recommended for any big cat enthusiast. We were well taken care of by zoo staff and every question answered!

Amazing experience
Dartmoor Zoological Park was amazing. Weather was excellent, staff were all superb and patient. We watched the lions and bear being clicker trained. An amazing up close experience. We fed and cleaned out the Tigers and the beautiful Jaguar. Nothing was rushed or hurried and all food and drink was included for the whole day. We even met the owner who spent a lot of time with us interested in our opinions of the zoo. Awesome day and present for someone.

An amazing day!
An absolutely amazing day! Close protected contact with all of the big cats and the keepers showing us round were so lovely and full of knowledge! They made sure that we had an amazing day whilst keeping us as safe a possible! I would recommend this to anyone who loves animals!

Absolutely amazing
More than we anticipated. Getting up close and personal with these amazing creatures was absolutely thrilling. It poured with rain the whole day but that did nothing to dampen our experience. The Keepers are so welcoming and informative. Who'd have thought cleaning out a big cat's bed would be so exciting?

Big Cat Zoo Keeper at Dartmoor Zoo.
As a big cat lover, it was an amazing day for me. The staff focus on safety, but within that, I was involved with the day to day care of the cats. This include food preparation, feeding, cleaning their day enclosures, and bedding. There was plenty of time for taking photographs, and breaks for drinks and lunch. The staff were patient answering lots of questions, and were knowledgeable in their answers. An unforgettable experience , well done Dartmoor Zoo staff.

Fantastic day
This was worth every penny (buy one get one free). Zoo staff were very welcoming and friendly. Such a great experience seeing what goes on behind the scenes at a zoo. Plenty of hands on - feeding,mucking out, making us feel part of the team. The best bit was being so close to the big cats -amazing ! Learnt loads of new facts from the knowledgeable staff. I have not stopped telling people how brilliant the day was !

Amazing 5 star experience with beautiful animals !
The whole day was amazing from start to finish . Safety briefing to start so everyone is aware of the saftey aspects of the day . Shadowing 2 keepers for the day to get hands on experience of day including cleaning the animals out . You get so close to the big cats it just amazing . You get a free meal and drinks during the day aswell . Very friendly staff , clean park and the animals are clearly well cared for
