Glorious Tea and experience
This was a Mother's Day gift that I was redeeming and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel had all it's COVID-19 protocols in place without making them seem too burdensome. I had requested for a gluten free afternoon tea and Montcalm rose the occasion superbly. It is one of the best Afternoon Teas I have had the pleasure of enjoying and I highly recommend the venue.

Lovely afternoon tea at a great price too.
Me and my family visited the Montcalm for afternoon tea on Saturday. We managed to extend our voucher because of Covid and the whole booking process was very simple. The hotel was clean and very Covid friendly, taking our temperature on arrival too. The afternoon tea was lovely with very fresh sandwiches and scones. The selection of Cakes were amazing and so pleased that they happened to be my favourites!! Was impressed with the fact that you got to choice from a selection of coffees Too!

Amazing
The afternoon tea experience was amazing and the staff at the hotel were well trained. Hotel catered very well to my dietary requirements to as I am a celiac. As the experience was so great we then went onto the Nirvana Bar in the hotel. Also excellent Service as well as very good quality cocktails Definitely recommend this place.

Tea at Montcalm
Service could have been a lot better but when we eventually got our food after waiting 45 minutes, food was very nice.

Food good, service not
The afternoon tea at the Montcalm was lovely. There was a great selection and lots of food. The service however was awful. It took the staff a long time to come to see us and then they rarely came over. When I smiled at the waitress to get her attention she rocked her eyes at her colleague. It was a disappointing part of an otherwise lovely tea.

Disappointing customer service
It took ages to get through to book the day. We didn't receive the confirmation email. It took forever to get through to anyone to chase this. No-one ever got back to us even after I sent emails. Two days before we were due to go, the receptionist confirmed our booking, When we arrived we were put in a side bit with about 6 tables and only us in it. The staff were friendly, they took our order and bought the food, which was lovely, but that was it, we never saw them again. Very disappointed.

Decent atmosphere, service could be better
Nice food BUT staff were not informative and didn’t want to help with other options available as I ordered coffee with coconut milk (which she said was the only dairy free milk) I had to ask her 4 times before she admitted they had soya as I wanted the coffee to be made again so it is creamier - just lazy staff. But, the sandwiches were very nice, desert was nice and scones were perfectly baked. Atmosphere was great, clean although plates and knives could have been covered and not exposed.

Afternoon tea
Hotel was very nice. Staff pleasant but main waiter was difficult to understand his English was poor and didn't explain the full extent of the afternoon tea. Dining room was basic and uncomfortable. No table cloths on tables. No atmosphere and no background music.

Birthday gift
Really weird tea. The food: sandwiches were lovely, scones were nice. The cakes didn’t take much taste to them, didn’t really eat them. Abit generic. Service was nice, attentive. But as we were seated by the disabled lift bit which is near the cupboards we had servers preparing cutlery there speaking in there own language. Was a little tense between them but it’s also abit weird because it makes you feel like they could be talking about you..

Pleasant afternoon but nothing special
Considering the location I was surprised that this didn't have more of a 'wow' factor. The room where the afternoon tea is served isn't grand at all and in my opinion more of a cafeteria style. There were no tablecloths and the china, cutlery etc were unremarkable. I just expected something a bit grander. The sandwiches were quite tasty, the scones were dry and we didn't taste the little dessert cakes but they looked pretty. Because we were unable to finish the tea the waitress kindly boxed up.

Good food - iffy service
The tea and food were great. However, we were there over an hour before being served tea. Although multiple people around us got there after us, and were served their tea and food. No waitress stopped by after bringing us water when we sat down. You would think seeing we didn’t have anything someone would have asked if we needed anything but no they did not. Once my husband finally got up said something to manager we were brought our tea and food and gave us extra champagne.

Nice place but...
The place is nice and the service is good. Nice selection of teas, but they don’t know how to properly serve tea and the food is not great.

Not a 5* experience
Waited for 40 minutes to be served after we were forgotten about. Terrible waitress service, barely ever acknowledged we were there, had to get up and find them when we wanted something. Only 3 choices of tea that arrived as a tea bag in a cracked teapot. Food was average but we have no idea what was in one of the sandwiches. Cakes were just ‘ok’. Nice hotel but they don’t appear to put any effort into their afternoon tea experience. Go somewhere else with your voucher.
