How To Tell Lamborghinis Apart

Everyone knows there’s loads of Lamborghini models. But could you tell the difference between a Huracan or Aventador when they fly past you on the motorway, or are parked up blinged out in gold on a London side street? Not to worry: we’re here to help. (And for a bit of fun, skip to the bottom to find the price to beat if you want to own one!)

We’ve lovingly gone over every inch of some sleek and shiny Lamborghinis to pick out the unique bits and flaps that separate the Huracáns from the Gallardos and the Murciélagos from the Aventadors.
TL;DR look at the side air intakes: pointy and low down = Huracán, slit on the side = Gallardo, square and on the ground = Murciélago, massive = Aventador.

How can you tell which Lamborghini it is from the front?

You’ll probably be able to pick out that it’s a Lamborghini either from the characteristic supercar roar or the fact it has a Lamborghini badge (black shield with a gold bull and the words ‘Lamborghini’ written in gold) on it, but telling them apart after that can be tricky if you can’t see the name on the back. So, here are some handy tips:

Headlights:

Huracán headlights follow the car body to the left and right, while the headlights on a Gallardo and Murciélago point up towards the windscreen. The Aventador is a mixture of both, and they look a bit like wings.

Bonnets and badges:

The Aventador and Huracán have their badges on the body of the car, rather than the bonnet flap. Those flaps have straight edges on the Gallardo and Murciélago, while they have a curve to accommodate the badge on Huracáns and Aventadors.

Front air intakes:

The air intakes on the front of a Huracán, Aventador and Gallardo look very similar, all looking like they’re growling at you: the difference lies in the body, which curves down on the Aventador and Gallardo’s middle to look like a lippy, shark-like overbite. The Murciélago has this overbite too, but the intakes are square.

Side air intakes:

The side air intakes are the big giveaway, as each Lamborghini model has different shapes as the design has evolved. Triangular and close to the ground makes a Huracán, square-ish and on the ground is a Murciélago, an upright slit is a Gallardo and ‘big enough to fit a backpack’ is an Aventador.

How can you tell which Lamborghini it is from the back/rear?

Likely as not, you’re not going to see the Lamborghini until it’s already passing you by. Thankfully there are still some unique features you can pick out as they shrink to a speck in the distance.

Exhausts:

The Murciélago and Aventador have exhausts in the middle, though the Aventador has a unique HDMI-port shape (some later Murciélagos have a similar shape. Check the lights!). Both the Huracán and Gallardo have two exhausts on either side, where the Huracán's sit at an angle and the Gallardo's sit in a straight line.

Lights:

The Huracán has slim lights sitting on a black strip, while the Gallardo’s are square and on top of black squares. The Murciélago’s are similar, though they’re a lot more rounded and not dissimilar from what your own car’s front headlights might look like. If you see the Aventador stopped you’ll recognise those brake lights anywhere – sideways ‘Y’s – though some more modern Gallardos have them too. Check the exhausts!

Body shape:

Once you’ve stopped admiring their curves, look out for some sticky-out hips. The Gallardo is the only Lamborghini where the body ‘sticks out’ from the rear bumper (just look at the picture to see what we mean), though there’s hints of it on the Aventador. Also, the Aventador has a massive dip in the roof, which should be easy to spot.

Of course, just spotting a Lamborghini is just part of the fun – the other half is guessing how many years you’d have to work before you can afford one! Using actual values from Auto Trader (i.e. if you had the money you could buy one at that price today) and some complicated maths (who remembers how to calculate the mean?), we’ve got the lowdown on what these beauties are worth.
