Superb hotel, lovely location.
We would go back to this hotel. Everything was excellent, staff, food, accommodation and location. Had a wonderful stay, but beware the road leading to the hotel, it is very narrow.

Excellent stay
A great experience overall, with a good-sized room in a very pleasant hotel. Fantastic setting right by the water, with spectacular coastal walks either side. The room was comfortable and clean, and the covid measures were as unintrusive as possible. The breakfast was good quality, made even better by the view! Portloe is only a small village so like much of Cornwall is only accessible by single track roads, so be prepared...

Peaceful location
Portloe offers peaceful, scenic and other worldly grace. The rugged and quiet walks in either direction from the village allow time for reflection and a place to rest (wooden benches) The Lugger Inn welcomed us with attentive and approachable staff and a view each morning at breakfast which was captivating. We paid extra for a sea view room but be sure to ask for the room above the restaurant as the room we ended up with looked out mostly towards a concrete pumping station.

Lovely setting
The Lugger Hotel is the perfect place to spend a peaceful few nights away from it all. From the momen we arrived we were well looked after by the lovely staff. Our room had great views and was spotless. Comfy bed and lovely crisp bedding. Coming back in the afternoon to homemade cakes or cookies was a nice touch. The food was all delicious even though the choices were quite limited. Breakfast had a a good choice of cooked options. Helpful advice on local walks and we loved the goody bag!

Expectations Exceeded!
Well, we always knew it was going to be good and it was. From the reviews we'd read, we expected good service and good food - indeed, both were excellent. What we hadn't expected was the warmth of that service which felt so genuine and non-contrived and that just made our stay perfect. Thank you (in no particular order) to Beth, Andy, Yannis and all the other smily faces around that helped turn our stay from 'very good' to excellent ... we hope to be back!

felt we were treated as ‘voucher’ guests
Stayed at Lugger hotel, Portloe, Cornwall. 2 nights B and B. On arrival reception manager said, “oh yes you are on a voucher, have you a copy for me”. This was said in front of other guests and made us feel extremely embarrassed and cheap. We had spent a lot of money on goods that then allowed us the right to redeem some benefit through the virgin experience. Our room (102) was directly opposite the kitchen where staff were still working with doors open at 11pm.

Overrated
Our room was in the boathouse opposite. It was small but clean and had tea/coffee facilities. During our stay we visited the Lost Gardens of Heligan which were worth seeing. We were disappointed the hotel was unable to provide dinner on our day of arrival- and chose not to ask for a table the following day either. Breakfast staff were pleasant. The vegetarian sausages were inedible.
