Great Hotel
We were brought this overnight stay as a wedding gift. Chester is such a lovely place and the hotel was really nice. We had to bring our daughter with us and they put her a single bed in the room, nothing was too much trouble.

A cracking day out!
Chester Abbots Wells is a very pleasant Mercure hotel that is clean and smart and we found to be very quiet. You can read all about it yourself but what it misses on its blurb is that it's right next to the park and ride, which means that day tripping in Chester is as easy as anything. I recommend 'The Gates of India' restaurant if you like a curry.

Relaxing weekend
A gift from my former colleagues my wife and I have enjoyed a relaxing weekend in Chester. It is only half an hour from our home but we took the time to explore Chester, walking the city walks and visiting the Roman historical sites. The hotel was in a good location and was very welcoming and comfortable.

I found the hotel very clean tidy and welcoming staff were very friendly. Only thing I was shocked at was the price of the drinks at the bar a little bit extensive but would stay here time and time again

Mini break
Lovely staff at the mecure. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and the hotel was clean. Nice to have leisure club facilities on site too. From the hotel there was a 2 mile canal walk to the centre of Chester which was lovely. Would recommend this hotel as a base for exploring Chester and surroundings

Excellent overnight stay!
We had a lovely stay from start to finish. The hotel was clean and modern, the staff helpful and friendly, breakfast great and we enjoyed the spa facilities, which although quite small, were still adequate and made our stay more relaxing. Will definitely book this hotel again.

Great location
The stay was a mother's day present. We found the hotel very easily and as we were very early arriving we went in to confirm we had arrived and planned to go into Chester. The young lady that greeted us was very pleasant and showed us round the hotel. We learned that a Park and Ride was located literally 3 or 4 minutes walk away, so we opted to leave the car in the car park and use the Park and Ride. We had a great full day in Chester and returned to the hotel for a delightful evening meal before retiring to our spacious and comfortable room. After an excellent breakfast we visited Chester again briefly. This is a definite " Do it again ".

Nice Surprise!
When we booked the night away we explained the it was a gift experience to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. When we arrived the hotel had upgraded our room, there was chocolate dipped strawberries & chocolate brownie's & a beautiful Swan towel art with the necks forming a heart & robes & slippers & a card from the staff what a lovely surprise. The only downer was the freezing cold restaurant & the service was a little slow but the food was very nice.

Good
We stayed at this hotel due to the fact of how close it is to Chester Zoo. The hotel did its job nicely. The restaurant was very disappointing so we went to The Cheshire Cat up the road which is well worth a visit. Breakfast was good in the hotel.

Anniversary Treat
Excellent Virgin Experience Days from our children for our 40th anniversary. Lots of experiences to choose from all so very different from each other, chose a night away in an hotel with full breakfast in Chester. No problems with booking, would recommend Virgin Experiences Days as a gift to someone.

Great hotel for short Chester stay
The booking for the hotel was simple, using the Virgin voucher. Hotel is a little outside Chester but a taxi into town was only £7 (Aug.18) so that's a fair price. Very clean hotel. Bed was nice and comfy but, if anything, the room was just too warm - even with the windows open ! We did not eat in the hotel so cannot tell you what the food was like, sorry.

A lovely stay in Chester
The whole experience was easy and straightforward and I was made to feel at ease the entire process when I would usually be getting stressed out whilst making plans. The hotel was absolutely lovely. The staff were really kind and helpful, and the hotel was beautiful too. The room was great- the bed was spacious and a lovely temperature in this hot weather, so we had a great nights sleep! The trip was everything I wanted and more and made for a great first break away with my boyfriend! Thanks!

Hotel Stay in Chester
A basic hotel that we wouldn't visit again. We used the spa facilities which were very worn unlike the pictures on the website and there was only 1 working shower in the changing rooms which had bad water pressure. Hotel staff were friendly enough but there were piles of dirty pots as we walked to our room just left around. The breakfast was good but not lots of choice. The best things were a powerful hairdryer and a big bed.

Reasonable Stay
Some parts of the hotel probably need renovation. Our toilet didn’t flush properly and some of the carpet was threadbare. The room was comfortable and decent sized. The breakfast was quite nice and on a par with other hotels I’ve stayed in before. The hotel leisure facilities were really good for the size of hotel. There was a pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna as well as a gym. Those areas were clean and well-cared for but the changing rooms were not. Overall an enjoyable stay.

It was ok
The hotel itself is in a nice location. Plenty of parking. The wasn't the best I've ever slept in but it was ok. The bathroom was a bit of a miss and quite messy. Luckily we didn't want to get a shower due to a number of hairs left in the bath from previous guests. The breakfast was nice and always lots of food to keep you satisfied. There was lots of noise in the morning. Just what you need on a Bank Holiday Monday when trying to have a lie in.

Could have been better. Everything was basic.
This was the first time we have stayed in this particular Mercure Hotel. On arrival, the Reception gave a very warm welcome. The walk to the room was long. It is such a pity that there are no lifts. The Room was OK. One of the chairs was sun bleached, and the padded seat 'crease' needed vacuuming. The Evening Meal: Food was good but it felt like we were sitting in a 'works canteen'. Where were tablecloths? Glasses needed polishing. Breakfast: Food good.

Sunday night in Chester
The hotel is rather tired - in need of facelift. We upgraded our room for an extra £20 & got, well - a fridge & a coffee machine. But the bed was clean & comfortable & the bathroom was clean. The Brasserie is rather uninviting - specifically the furniture & decor. Buffet breakfast was of a poor standard. However all the staff were very welcoming & pleasant & the bar area is ok. Overall rather disappointing.

Out dated musty smelling hotel
The hotel we picked to stay in way very outdated, the main carpet to our room was all worn out, you could hear absolutely everything that was going on outside the room in the room! They called this the privilege suite (sorry no way) it looked nothing like their website. It would be nice the if the hotels you featured in your vouchers were in better condition. Plus side the staff were friendly and the breakfast was ok .

Certainly an experience
No lifts, very dark narrow corridors to rooms, very dark tiny room (don’t stay in room 204) small bed, dressing table/desk sticky, small TV at a right angle to the bed. Room dusty, condensation running down window and wall. Certainly not a room you could relax in and not a 4* either. On seeing our room we looked at some reviews online and promptly cancelled our dinner reservation after reading them. We went out to eat which was lovely. We got up early, (breakfast was fine) and we left.

Mercure Abbots Well Chester
Booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary, arrived to find hotel closed since March! We had no email to advise this although they state email was sent August, I have checked my spam and nothing there awaiting a copy being emailed. Very frustrated by lack of empathy/support from reception staff, we insisted on speaking to Manager who eventually called without any apology and would investigate. We were left alone. Hotel closed - refugees! We felt discriminated and 2nd class citizen

Dirty and cold
Turned up at the hotel where there was a wedding on so couldn’t get near the bar or a seat. Went to the room that was directly above the wedding party. Room was freezing as the radiator didn’t work. There was a plug in one in the room though but not plugged in. Fire alarm went off within 30 mins of arrival. Everybody out, then back in. Wedding guests went to eat so went to the dirty bar where we were served a flat drink. Went back to the room got our stuff and left. 1 1/2 hours after we arrived.

Hygiene
Staff are wonderful, especially the bar man pater. He multi tasked a queue of impatient thirsty customers at the bar, as well as serving food in the restaurant, should of had more staff on the night. Spa area was disgusting. There was litter, rust and debris in the swimming pool and jacuzzi. Bedrooms lacked basic facilities.

Shabby
Hotel room was shabby and in need of a refurb. Wallpaper peeling off and ceiling tiles stained and wonky. Cushion in chairs well worn down. Window handle broke off so I couldn't close the window. Hotel lacked any atmosphere, so we went out in the evenings. Not worth the money. On a positive note room was clean.
