Beautiful hotel, spa and evening meal deal
Shrigley hall is set in beautiful surroundings with stunning views. The entrance hall and stairway are a sight to admire along with lots of design touches throughout the hotel. Spa facilities were a little busy at times but the food served in the spa and service were fabulous. The room we had was in the refurbished area and was clean comfortable and nicely designed, with a good en-suite. The evening meal was 3 courses every one delicious. Again with great friendly service. Breakfast was tasty too

Although there was major refurbishment works going on, the impact was minimal. Our room was perfect. Newly refurbished and great decor. Food was fantastic and locaion really good for Castleton and more. Good for walking and / or relaxing.

Very good service
The hotel itself is lovely, has nice modern rooms whilst the rest of the hotel is old and classy. Great food and very good service to match. I'd say access for wheelchair bound people would be a nice improvement and better access for prams. However not a cirticism and will definitely be staying again.

Impressed
Stunning location, shame it we were in the middle of storm Dennis, so couldn't enjoy or appreciate the outside space. Our room was in the original part of the hotel, small but had everything, including creeky floor boards. Food and drink were both lovely,no complaints at all. The building itself was very impressive, steapped in history.

Would definitely stay again
Lovely night away with my fiancĂ©, glass of Prosecco on arrival.Spend most of the day in the facilities(pool, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi) absolutely perfect especially with the horrible weather outside. Meal was so delicious only problem was we had to pay extra for certain options which we didnât know at the time. Room is very spacious and very comfortable bed. Canât go wrong with buffet breakfast! Definitely stay here again!

Environment very nice
The hotel is very nice and so is the environment , the food in the restaurant was lovely, we had food in the bar at lunch time and we paid ÂŁ4.50 for 6 chips and ÂŁ27 for a bottle of wine which i think is expensive.

Pretty good
After very poor customer service from the Virgin Experience Team I was slightly worried what to expect. The welcome was very professional and the hotel and its views quite spectacular. A few small things caused some issues but as the hotel is going through a refurb they can be overlooked. We paid for a second night as it was some distance to travel for one night and that was not the best price compared to various search sites. Overall, worth the money which lends no thanks to Virgin.

Beautiful
We spent last night at the hotel and had a lovely time. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the hotel is absolutely beautiful albeit there are some refurbishments going on but we were made aware. The evening meal was beautiful and the serving staff amazing. Will definitely return.

Beautiful hotel and surroundings all the staff very friendly and helpful food was gorgeous. The only drawback was the weather, it rained so we couldn't enjoy a walk round the grounds.

Relaxing night away.
I had this bought for me as a wedding gift, myself and my husband spent a lovely night there. The place was beautiful and quite scenic. The leisure facilities were good but the menâs changing rooms were out of bounds as they are being refurbished therefore had to travel quite far to an allocated bedroom to change. The 3 course meal and the breakfast included was faultless. The only downfall was the room in which we stayed needed majorly updating, tatty furniture, grubby decor and a squeaky bed.

An average stay
What was good? - Comfortable bed, slept well. Good food. What was not so good? - Service not too good on Thursday evening. Poolside very wet in places. No information on local attractions in foyer or bedroom. Although meeting 4 star requirements the room was basically furnished. Soap dish mounted on wall would be helpful. The bedside cabinets were merely boxes (no drawers).

âNot soâ relaxing break

Mrs T
Visited for a much needed stress free break. Checked in by a not very helpful lady who rushed us through. No info on location on facilities etc. No Prosecco on arrival. Room on 3rd floor, loft space. Lift out of order. Not told. Lovely big bath. Over flow not connected to anything to spent the evening mopping up water off bathroom floor. Not really stress free eve. Bed sooo uncomfortable. Neither of us slept. Checked out in morning. Reception staff couldn't really be bothered to listen. đđ

Slightly disappointed
Stunning building in a beautiful location. However the decor is very âtiredâ and shabby. Our room was very dark, and dated. The faux leather headboard was scratched and peeling and the wardrobe door was hanging off itâs hinges. The food was good but the bar prices were expensive.

Voucher Couple
We received an overnight stay with breakfast and evening meal for a Christmas present and looked forward to a treat. However we felt like a âvoucher coupleâ during our stay. The pool and surrounding areas were grubby, but poolside bed loungers were comfortable. The food in the restaurant was ok, but the service needs âsharpening upâ. We didnât receive our drinks until half way through our main meal. The breakfast was ok, all self service. Overall it was ok, but not a 4* rating in my view.

Shrigley Hall
We had a lovely time. Food was excellent. The room was very basic. Net curtains very stained and bathroom wasn't clean. There was a motor running all night long. I won't be going back. I expected luxury for the price paid. Very disappointing.

Lovely hotel for a short break
Lovely hotel, in a beautiful location. The room was ok, had a sloping ceiling though and not much space. Spa facilities were nice, the jacuzzi was a bit odd though, it barely covered your legs once you were sat on the seat part. Food was good in the restaurant. Glass of prosecco inc was awful (I will drink anything!), we'd ordered a bottle anyway (arrived first), it didn't taste like any other prosecco I've had before! We were told 'it is free' erm, no it isnt, it's included in the price!

Hotel&spa
Hotel was lovely where it was situated, however building work was going on (which we were not informed about when booking) so was hard to relax with hammers and saw going. Room was also quite outdated. Food amazing, staff friendly, spa small and had to pay extra for robes and towels which is unusual for a spa facility. Booking with the experience days was very easy though and saved a lot of money!

Nice hotel but rooms let it down
The hotel is located in beautiful surroundings and has some wonderful views. Our room wasn't what I was expecting, the decor very dated and really hot. There is AC but it was quite noisy so that wasn't an option. Despite this the bed was very comfy and slept well which we were grateful for. The food was lovely the staff very friendly and welcoming. Would like to return once the refurbishment works have been completed.

Dinner for 2 @ Shrigley Hall Hotel
Very disappointed with the bed as it was a double room but 2 single beds pushed together so couldn't snuggle up together without 1 of us falling inbetween the beds. also the room we had was above a generator room which had a constant bzzing sound all night. Bathroom was good and the room itself was good. Service was also good and the workers did what they could. Food was just OK with not much variety & some courses had an added supplement It's a very expensive place for drinks so be warned

Not so good
Stayed 23/03/20 We switched on the shower, mould started coming away from the edge of the shower around my husbands feet. I had the chicken dish for dinner, there was something odd growing in my potatoes. I was just fobbed off without an apology. The service in the dining room was pretty poor, mainly young teenagers working. Loud music started at around 10:30 until the early hours. The radiator in our room was very loud for most of the night. Wouldnât go back.

birthday gift.
Looks nice from the outside, reception area been made over. booking in quick and pleasant staff. Room good size but very old and outdated furniture, in despite need of make over, bed needed replacing, did not have a good sleep. Main dining room closed, for fitting of new carpets, moved to room at back of hotel. Choice of menu ok but food could have been warmer . Work still on going in the spa/pool area. The Courtyard bar/lounge could be bigger not enough seating area inside.

Terrible experience
The room was very dated which wasn't reflected on the hotel website. This was part of the reason why I decided to exchange my voucher and pay more was because the rooms looked modern. We were told to pay extra for one of those when I complained at reception. The room we got was dirty, carpet dusty and the bathroom mouldy and had blacks marks around the toilet which was evidence of past leaks. Dinner included in our voucher was also lacking any quality. Very disappointing stay glad to leave.
