lovely stay in york
Had a lovely stay in york at Mecure York Fairfield Manor Hotel. We had the set three course meal Brasserie Menu as our choice of evening meal. There was a choice of three starters, main meals and deserts. We had soup, beef and cheesecake with a glass of prosecco each. It was hot, delicous and very filling. Enjoyed every minute and the breakfast was amazing too. Well worth the money. Will do it again.

Comfortable overnight stay with nice meal
Only problem was floor outside room was very squeaky so we heard everyone that walked passed (even at 3am). No tea or coffee making facilities in room as stated on experience voucher and no WiFi code, not even any complimentary water. But the beds was comfy and the evening meal and breakfast very good, so still an enjoyable stay. All staff friendly and helpful.

Hidden extras!
Hotel lovely, spotless, requested double room, bed was huge, couple of disappointing things, the evening meal voucher wasn't explained very well, we was given a few menus and told we could mix and match the courses, we had gone over the £22 each, went to the till at the end of our meal to pay, told that our voucher covered the full cost and there was nothing to pay, until we went to check out and was told there are certain things on the menu that we needed to pay for, disappointing end to stay.

Adequate
Mercure in York is a bit dated and needs decorating and bringing up to date. No better than a Premier Inn, not knocking Premier Inn, but Mercure is supposed to be upmarket, sadly it isn't. Food was ok waited a long time for it though, we spent too long in restaurant waiting for it, couldn't wait to get outside as a bit stuffy. Breakfast was packed away half an hour early and people still turning up, so not a nice thing to do. Not worth the money that is charged, we were disappointed.

Not amazing but ok
The hotel was a lot better than I expected, although the amenities were a little lacking - no water in the room, no glasses, and only one towel for two of us. Service wasn't too great though. The receptionist was unprofessional and not very friendly either, and the lady at the bar (when I asked for a glass for my room) said to use the plastic cups in the room? Our view was of housekeeping bins at the room. The food (dinner) & restaurant was great though, and the hotel was v clean.

Not what we expected
We checked in at about 6 pm and were told we had the last room in the hotel. We subsequently found out we had a converted breakout room, so the bed was virtually on the floor as it was a pull out bed, the heating didn't work and there was no hot water. They couldn't fix those issues as maintenance were not on site. The food is average, there were only 2 other table in the restaurant so it lacked atmosphere. I would recommend going B&B. The hotel is on a good bus route

Tired hotel with poor service
I find it hard to believe that Virgin Experience is using this hotel. The hotel is showing signs of wear and tear and is in need of some serious refurbishment. The service in the restaurant was a joke. 30 minutes after ordering we had to ask when our mains would be served, and then the same thing happened with our deserts. There was a total lack of attention from the serving staff, and it is obvious that they are in desperate need of both training and better supervision.

Mercure Fairfield York
A very tired & dated hotel. Very tired staff who were asked to work days as we dined. Not sure why as the place was dead. Bedrooms in desperate need of makeover (stains faulty wiring, dodgy lighting ) dirty bathrooms. We had to send drinks back as they weren’t want we asked for, send food back as it wasn’t cooked through. I’d like a refund please as this was something I thought was going to be a joke!!!
