Overview
If you’re a budding photographer, this Photography Course at Dartmoor Zoo is perfect for you.
Run on either a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, you’ll learn all about taking great animal photos and discover how to put your camera kit to the best use. How can you make sure that the netting is not visible? How can you get the light right? How can you make best use of all those buttons on your camera? This course will answer all your burning questions.
With amazing animals as subjects and the individual knowledge of Dartmoor Zoo’s in-house photographer to tap in to, you’ll create some breathtaking photographs. At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate and have the rest of the day to continue putting your new-found photography knowledge to the test.

What happens on the day?
The course will run from 9:30 am to 12:30pm. On arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed with a drink and meet your photography instructor for the day. Run on either a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, you’ll learn all about taking great animal photos using the resident animals as subjects and discover how to put your camera kit to the best use. This fantastic experience also includes lunch in the Jaguar Restaurant and all-day entry to the zoo where you can continue practicing your new-found skills. At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate to commemorate your incredible day.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 16
- The experience is not recommended for anyone who is pregnant, has a high blood pressure, or is of a nervous disposition
- While nearly all of the zoo is accessible to wheelchairs and buggies, it is quite hilly and rugged and some of the paths are challenging. Caution should be exercised, and the team is ready to help when you need: just ask. High heels are inadvisable

Availability
The experience is available seven days a week throughout the year, subject to availability.
The experience will usually begin at 09.30 and finish at 12.30 but this is subject to change.
We recommend you book at least one month in advance to ensure that dates are available.
Demand is high and places may be limited, so you're advised to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow 3 hours for the full experience, with additional time to enjoy the zoo.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
