Discover the origins of one of the world’s most versatile spirits in a rum masterclass for two with a tasting at the Old School Distillery.
Taking place in a former Victorian schoolhouse in Staffordshire, expert tutors will be on hand to teach you to taste all the major international styles of rum during this 1 hour 30 minute experience. You’ll learn the history of the dark liquor as well as production methods, aging and maturing techniques used by the distillers.
Round your session off with a demonstration of how rum can be used as a base for many great cocktails.

What happens on the day?
On arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your personal tutor for the day and shown around the former schoolhouse.
Get ready for 1 hour 30 minutes of rum-infused entertainment, as this masterclass sees you explore the world of rum, tasting all the major styles from all over the world. You’ll also learn everything about the liquor’s history as well as its production methods, aging and maturing techniques.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 18 (you may be asked to display ID)
- Book a taxi, get a lift but do not plan to drive for several hours after attending the masterclass
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability
The experience is available on Wednesdays and Friday to Sunday at 18.00 only January to November. Exclusions including 25 November and all of December will apply.

We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.

What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
