Overview
Fancy meeting some graceful giraffes? At South Lakes Safari Zoo, you’ll have the chance to get up close to some with this Kordofan Giraffe Encounter.
You’ll join the keepers inside the enclosure ‘Africa’ to meet the female tower of Kordofan Giraffes face to face – while you learn all about these critically endangered giraffes, you can explore where the girls eat, sleep and poop. Find out who is the bossiest and why Eloise gets a weekly pedicure. After, head to the Top Giraffe House, home to boys Kofi and Ekundayo, to discover why these boys are so special. You may even get the chance to handfeed them and capture the perfect giraffe pic.
If you’re a fan of unique experiences, meeting giraffes is definitely one to tick off the bucket list. Your experience also includes all day entry to the zoo, where you can see the other 1000 residents from Critically Endangered Sumatran Tigers to Endangered Giant Anteater Joaos to Red Pandas. What happens on the day?
On arrival at South Lakes Safari Zoo, you’ll be warmly greeted by the keepers ready for your giraffe encounter. First up, you’ll visit the ‘Africa’ enclosure to see where the tower of gals eat, sleep and poop. Friendly keepers will be on hand sharing insider knowledge about their individual likes, dislikes and quirks.
Then it’s time to meet the tower of male giraffes. Discover why these boys are so special and so close to the hearts of all the keepers. You may get the opportunity to hand-feed the towers! Your experience also includes all-day entry to the zoo where you can see plenty more wonderful species.

The encounter is available seven days a week. Exclusions may apply
We recommend you book in advance to ensure that dates are available. Availability during holidays and weekends is usually more restricted – simply due to demand. All bookings are subject to availability.

What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
