Introduction to Glassmaking for Two
Overview
Working with state-of-the-art equipment and professional glassmakers, this Glassmaking Experience for Two has all you need for an exciting and unusual experience you’ll never forget. You’ll be working with hot molten glass straight from the furnace so you’ll need extreme attention to detail and a steady hands as well as creativity to master this skill.
You’ll learn what the equipment in the studio is used for and how to work safely in a challenging environment. You’ll each have the chance to create your own piece of glass work to keep. Your work will need to be left overnight in order to anneal, so it will need to be delivered to you at a later date. This is very much a hands-on experience and you will be joined by other students to work as a team with your tutor. One thing’s for sure, neither of you will ever look at a glass vase in the same way again.

What happens on the day?
On arrival at the centre, you’ll both be greeted by your tutor and introduced to the other participants in your small group. Your tutor will guide you and up to three others through the basics of working with hot glass and you will become familiar with the tools and equipment needed to master this skills. You will move quickly onto gathering glass from the furnace, shaping it and applying colour.
These new skills will enable you to each make an ornamental piece, such as a paperweight, and towards the end of your day, there will be a demonstration and introduction to glass blowing.
Please note: Any glass items made by you will have to be annealed overnight, so they cannot be taken away at the end of the day. Your glass can be forwarded at a cost of £20 per person payable on the day, if for any reason the glass does not survive annealing, the £20 cost of grinding, packing and shipping will be refunded back to you. Unfortunately Glass work cannot be kept for collection.

Excellent experience!
The ladies leading the session were lovely and very knowledgable! Thoroughly enjoyed the morning in the studio. The only negative I’d say is I think that given how much the experience costs that it is a bit much to ask for another £20 per head when you get there for them to post the work to you after the session (even if you live at the same address). I’d rather this be incorporated into the experience cost - especially if you are buying this as a gift for someone.
