The Big Cat Photography Experience is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your camera and of course the animals.
You’ll learn how to capture great photographs of big cats and other animals at your chosen location, either in Bedfordshire at Woburn Safari Park or Merseyside at Knowsley Safari Park. This is an exciting, informative and enjoyable experience giving you unique access to some wonderful big cats with plenty of close-up opportunities to capture great images and learn about the animals with the help of keeping staff and your photographic guide.

What happens on the day?
On arrival at your chosen Safari Park you will be greeted by your host for the day and will be offered tea or coffee. You will take part in an important health and safety briefing followed by a short session on how to make the most of your camera and its abilities.
If you are taking part at Woburn Safari Park your photography session will take place around the reserves with special time allocated for the lion pride and Amur tigers. You will also see bears, wolves, rhino, antelope, giraffes and monkeys. Take your experience at Knowsley Safari Park for exclusive access to the lions and tigers then receive a safari drive and take part in the baboon feed.
After your photography adventure is over you will receive a de-briefing and are free to enjoy the rest of the park until closing time.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age 14: (under 16s must be accompanied by a full paying adult)
- The experience requires no qualifications and is suitable for all interested guests
- You will need to bring your own camera. Please call Wild Arena if you have any queries
- Disabled access is available at all parks but please call Wild Arena for further information
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary according to location
Availability
The experience is available on selected dates throughout the year with weekends and half term dates only available from November to March. Please note the parks are shut on weekdays from November to March so guests cannot stay in the park after the event.
Please note that availability is very limited for 2021. 2022 dates will be released in November.
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow 3 hours for your experience. However, you are welcome to spend the rest of the day at the park.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Amazing
I had a brilliant day shooting photos of the big cats, rhinos, bears etc. at Woburn Safari Park! We go close to all the animals (safely!) and took excellent photos! A fantastic day!

Big Cat workshop Knowsley Safari Park
A completely fabulous morning at Knowsley. A one to one with the wonderful Janet who was very informative and friendly. Guided tour of the lion enclosure with plenty of opportunities to take photos under expert tuition. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Fabulous experience with the big cats.
I thoroughly enjoyed my photography morning with the big cats at Knowsley. The experienced guides helped us with advice and suggestions for camera settings and composition and were extremely knowledgeable. I would do this again and highly recommend it.

An absolutely amazing experience
From start to finish yesterday was a huge hit , there were 5 of us in the party in 2 vehicles which meant there was plenty of room for our camera bags and we were talked through what we were going to see and do as we went along . The animals were amazing as was the photography tips we were given by our guides and our safety and enjoyment was their main concern the whole time.

Getting close to the 'Cats' was fantastic
Being able to spend time with an experienced nature photographer (David) who placed us close to the lions and gave help with composition was wonderful. Then being able to enter the inner area of the tiger enclosure was the highlight for me. I love these animals and I am not disappointed with my photographic results.

Great Photography Experience!
I really enjoyed the experience. We got pretty close to the animals and had plenty of time to take lots of pictures. I'm a complete beginner to photography and one of the guides was able to give us a bit of information regarding all the fancy modes that cameras have which was very helpful!

A Great Day Out

Great experience with good access to the Big cats

A Day to Remember, for all the right reasons
A well organised morning that exceed my expectations. 6 of us sharing two vehicles we were constantly provided with photo opportunities. Harvey and David were superb. They both ensured we got close as possible to the animals. Harvey was so knowledgable with regard to the animals and David's photographic experience was a top bonus. Was it a day I would recommend - Absolutely!

Excellent Day
A wonderful experience at Knowsley Safari. Very knowledgeable guides who provided lots of helpful advice regarding my camera and how to choose good shots. Amazing close access, much of which is not available to the general public. Really pleased with the results and would definitely recommend this photography experience.

A wonderful day!
We had a great time on the Big Cats Photography at Woburn. Our guides, David and Harvey, provided deep knowledge about the animals, lots of enthusiasm, and excellent insight into life at Woburn. We had a wonderful time.

Worth every penny!!
The day was amazing!! Totally recommended to anyone that not only likes photography but just like watching the animals up close and personal. We were very lucky with the weather, and had even more luck with the Animal’s as they performed perfectly for us. Had tigers running up long side the car. The bears had a bath, the wolves worked together as a pack to bully the bears to get the food (No animals were harmed). We were literally a couple of feet away from the lions. Definitely doing this again

On a lovely sunny morning we set out on our experience, at Woburn Safari Park. Guides were very knowledgeable, lots of information given on using cameras, also I was shown how to use more of the settings on my camera. vehicles got up very close to the animals. An amazing morning,

A great close up experience
My session at Woburn Safari was great. Dave, who ran the experience, was very informative and knowledgeable. He made the session interesting and educational, from a wildlife point of view as well as a photographic one. Although the animals were not at their most active, typical, we were able to get very close to them which was amazing. Emma, the ranger, was also a great guide and certainly knew how to get the best location for a shot whilst maintaining safety. Highly recommended.

An excellent day
I was expecting a so so experience to be honest, but this excelled. The staff really went out of their way to enhance the experience and I learned a considerable amount which allowed me to really make the most of the day. Full marks to David & Emma for excellent customer service which really enhanced the day above and beyond.

Great day
This half-day experience was great with a good balance between getting up close with the animals in a vehicle with one of the park guides, and then technical advice from the photographer. if your group is split and you are in the group that will rotate into the vehicle with the photographer last, make sure to get some tips from them during the briefing session to make the most of your time in the carnivore enclosure. (Canon 550D - 18-200)

A great day on safari.

Awesome day!
Attended this experience at Woburn Safari Park and experience is definitely the word for it. After being met by a very friendly and professional David and Skye we were given a quick briefing and then spent the next 3 hours out in the park photographing beautiful animals in their habitat. We were able to get so near to the animals got some wonderful photos. Both guides were knowledgeable and so helpful regarding the camera work and the animals.

A Good Day
A great opportunity to get up close with some large animals. Dave and Harvey were very good hosts, endeavouring to give the customers the best possible angles for the camera. Sadly the lions had recently been fed and were therefore inactive, however the tigers more than made up for the disappointment. Also good views of rhinos, giraffes and bears. Well worth the three hour drive for this opportunity, with free time in the reserve on completion.

One of the best experiences I've had!
I was bought this as a gift and was not disappointed! The staff were brilliant from start to finish, explained everything really well, were really knowledgeable about the animals and had great advice for the photography side too. Amazing being so close to the animals. Whether you're a professional photographer or are just using your iPhone, there is a chance to take some great photos and have an amazing day. Will definitely be booking again!

Superb experience !
Purchased as a special birthday present for me and it did not disappoint ! David, our guide for the experience was super and did everything possible to ensure that we had a good time. His photography knowledge, advice and tips were more than helpful and together with his knowledge of the big cats, other animals and birds we saw made for an absolutely great time. Being able to get out of the vehicle and photograph so close to the big cats was fantastic. Thanks also to Janet, the Park photographer

Access all areas......
A great morning with viewing and photography in all the main areas of the park. As well as lions and tigers, we got up close to black bears, wolves, giraffes, antelopes and wildebeest. A small group of seven, we split into three smaller groups and rotated round between vehicles. A mix of photography and animal advice/information was available to enhance the experience. After lunch the included park entrance allowed for further photography. Overall a great day.

Big Cats Photographic Day
Well, what can I say - except I loved every minute. The trip was easy. Was met by Dave who made the day easy for all of us. Offering camera advice and PLENTY of opportunities to take photos - some animals were that close you could smell them 😏. The tiger experience with Skye was also a little too close for comfort and the landrover has the teeth marks to prove it. Overall a wonderful 1/2 day was had by all.

Wonderful experience

The Big Cat Experience
Absolutely BRILLIANT. Had a great time. Very knowledgeable guides who have a great rapport with the keepers and can then get the best out of the day for us. It was actually better than I thought it might be. Great experience!!!!! Loved it. And then I walked and drove around for the rest of the day too. Fantastic!!!!! Thanks very much for a great time!!!

Thoroughly enjoyable
The afternoon with Jenny was informative and more than lived up to expectations due to ability to get close to the animals with someone who knows them. Pre tour chat from David was helpful for those of us with less experience of photography. For anyone else like me who has a painful medical condition, choose the vehicle with better suspension, this however did not detract from the experience.
