One of only six producers who can make the geographically protected Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, Brockleby’s offers a friendly, authentic setting for you to create this world-famous delight.
You’ll make your own pork pie from scratch, from pastry making, mincing pork, hand-raising the pastry, baking, and the all-important jellying. You’ll finish with two pies to take home, one cooked and ready to eat and one to bake at a later date. Round off this fantastic experience with a delicious Ploughman’s Lunch or a high tea in the form of a luxury picnic to take away with you

What happens on the day?
On arrival you’ll be greeted by the friendly staff. You’ll learn about the history of Brockleby’s and the world-famous Mowbray Pork Pie, as well as enjoying a tour of the bakery. Once you’ve got the low-down on the goings-on there, you’ll get hands-on, creating your own pie from scratch. You’ll finish with two pies to take home, one cooked and ready to eat, one uncooked and ready to bake at a later date – perfect for your next dinner party!
Round off this fantastic experience with a delicious Ploughman’s Lunch or a high tea in the form of a luxury picnic to take away with you.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 16 (under 18s must be accompanied by a full paying adult)
- There is currently no disabled access
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability
The experience takes place on regular Saturdays and one Sunday per month, throughout the year. Exclusions may apply.
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow 3 hours for the full experience, including lunch / high tea.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Well planned and enjoyable experience
The pork pie making experience was very well conducted by the instructor, who managed to combine interesting snippets of local and culinary history with thorough pie-making instructions and hands-on demonstrations. All in all, a very relaxed and enjoyable 3 hour event at which relevant Covid precautions were carefully observed. A lot of thought had been put into the take-away ploughman's lunch specifically designed for the pandemic.

Pie Making Experience
This day was awesome, had so much fun learning to make Melton Mowbray pork pies, and is an experience that is well worth while doing. The instructor and helpers were friendly and informative, you get lunch as well as the pies you get to take home. What more do you need?

Great experience, learnt a lot.
This experience was very good. The staff went through the whole process in stages to make it very clear and easy to understand. The class size was around 20 so small enough that everyone felt involved. In the end we left with 2 pies, one ready to eat the other for cooking whenever we fancy.

Very enjoyable and delicious experience!
The Pork Pie Making Workshop with Ploughman's Lunch at Brockleby's Bakers was a wonderful experience. The host was friendly, funny and clearly enjoyed taking the workshop. We were shown how to make pastry, made our own Melton Mowbray Pork Pie and had two delicious pies to take away with us at the end of the workshop. The Ploughman's Lunch was delicious with Brockleby's pies and local Stilton cheese. I would highly recommend this workshop for anyone who likes baking...or pies in general!

Very enjoyable time
I had a great time learning all about pork pie. We made pastry, mixed filling and piped jelly, plus had a lovely lunch which surprise included pork pie.

Brilliant culinary experience, taught how to make pork pies by a really knowledgeable, enthusiastic team of real food experts. Two pies to take home and a great ploughman's lunch. Would definitely recommend!

Pork Pie Making - good fun
An enjoyable 2.5 hours learning how to make pork pies, followed by a tasty ploughman's lunch (including, of course, pork pie and Stilton). I would have given five stars but for a slightly over-relaxed approach to safety: the floor area around the handwash was smooth and slippery, and I almost came a cropper.

Pie Days and Polidays
My veggie sister bought me a carnivore's dream of a Christmas present learning how to make Melton Mowbray pies at Brockleby's, and it was great fun and a painless learning experience to boot. Informed and informal, friendly, garrulous experts who make pies for a living took us very clearly through the stages of making a beautiful pork pie so we could make our own at home. After a nice lunch we all left with our own hand-finished pie certain that We Can Do This! Yummy, fun day out for pie fans.
