Take a journey through history with this 30-minute helicopter flight, visiting the practice locations used by the pilots who carried out the secret ‘Dam Busters’ mission in 1943.
Gain an understanding of the difficulty the crews faced in locating their targets as you fly over the numerous reservoirs and imagine their bravery in the dark. You’ll retrace their route past the twin dams, alongside the Ladybower and then the Derwent and Howden dams themselves.

What happens on the day?
Once you have arrived at the airfield, you will meet the ground crew who will give a safety briefing and inform all passengers of the proposed flight path. The helicopter seats six passengers so you may be sharing your experience with other sightseers.
Then it’s over to the launch pad to board and buckle up. You will fly along the 617 Squadron’s training route which leads down the Derwent Valley and over the Twin Dams. Upon completion of your flight you will land back at the airfield and be presented with a certificate.

Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 6 (Under 16’s need to be accompanied by a paying adult)
- Maximum weight: 18 stone (please advise when making your booking if you are over 15 stone)
- You should not take part if you suffer from epilepsy, vertigo or are pregnant
- Those with disabilities are more than welcome to come along although we recommend you call to determine whether it will be fully suitable
- Spectators are welcome to wait at the airfield while you take your flight
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary according to location
Availability
Flights take place once per month at weekends, from March to November, subject to availability.
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
Please allow 45 minutes, the flight time is 30 minutes.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

The flight was well organized, the weather delayed us but no one can predict that, the only criticism I have is the guests on the flight knew more about the dambusters then the tour guide, if you are going to offer these flights please make sure the guilds know something about what the tour is about.
