Overview
The two of you can make a whole day of it at Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo in Yorkshire. So why not go that bit further and spend some extra time getting up close and personal with one of the park's many species of animals? With this experience there are three encounters to choose from, either the Meerkat, Lemur or Penguin encounter, which one takes your fancy?
Go for penguins to learn about the family of Humboldt’s and feed them their lunch; you may even meet a friendly excited penguin who’ll take food from your hand. If Meerkats are more up your street then you should go for an encounter with them, you’ll learn about their habitat at the park and feed them a few snacks along with a tour of their ‘house’. You could always opt to learn about the lemurs instead though, and get up close to these creatures in their own environment at the park. This awesome experience also gives you admission into the Theme Park to enjoy at your leisure and a 20% off voucher for use in the gift shop.

What happens on the day?
Your day will vary dependant on which encounter you choose but all options will include access to the park, a fabulous discount at the gift shop and a health and safety briefing before your experience.
You’ll meet an experienced keeper, some friendly animals and be able to offer your chosen animal food. You may choose separate encounters if you wish, just let the zoo know at the time of booking.
Participant guidelines
- Minimum age: 8 (under 12s must be accompanied by a paying adult)
- All spectators must pay normal day visitor rate and will not be able to accompany the guest into animal areas
- The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary
Availability
The experience is available seven days a week from the middle of March to the beginning of November. All experiences must be pre-booked.
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
The experience will last 20 to 30 minutes, but you are free to stay for the rest of the day, subject to opening times.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A day with a difference
Great day out topped off with a meet and greet feeding the penguins. Lovely keeper who showed us round. The penguins were up close and swimming up for fish. Loved it

Great day out
We did the animal encounter for 2 at Flamingo Land and chose to see the Lemurs. It’s a great activity if you don’t mind them jumping on you and sitting on your knee. You get to feed them and they will come over to you and take the food out of your hand. Great idea for a present for someone as I received this voucher as a birthday present!

Lemur encounter
Amazing day out loved every minute and the guide that took us got some amazing photos for us and even some close up pictures of the lemurs. Fab experience will definitely be booking something similar again soon.

Excellent
I was bought this experience as a birthday gift and decided to choose the lemur experience. It was quite a long drive but well worth it. One of the best zoos I've been to- really nice big enclosures for the animals and some really different rides that I'd never experienced before. The lemur experience itself was fantastic. Got to feed them and ask lots of questions while they took turns sitting on our knees and shoulders. Lasted about 40 mins. Would 100% recommend.

The zoo keeper was excellent. She was polite, cheerful, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful and willing to let us stretch beyond the over-protective boundaries, we think she was called Lucy. She was great and took as long as the job took, which meant that happily for everyone, we took longer to do the feeding. That was great.

We had a rainy start to the day but was fine when we were taken to the meerkats by a friendly and knowledgeable meekat keeper. The kids enjoyed the experience of feeding the meerkats although there was no tour of the meerkat house afterwards as advertised, otherwise very enjoyable and we enjoyed the whole park.

Meerkat experience
I opted for the meerkat experience and took my partner for his birthday. We had a lovely time at the park and our supervisor was very knowledgable and told us all about the animals they cared for. My one criticism is it could have been a bit longer and there were only five meerkats there due to recently losing some to illness. Other than that it was a great experience.

Penguin Encounter...1 year late
I booked this encounter for a 21st Birthday; and after attempting to book it on a day where we were free...we managed to go. After months of glorious sunshine, we attended on a very wet day. Thankfully it was very quiet as their wasn’t much guidance into where we go and what we do. The experience was good, but the keeper could of been more friendly, welcoming and make it feel like a special occasion. We felt like we were an inconvience for her which was a huge let down. Not worth the money.
